Alex de Minaur was entering a new land in 2025.
The No. 7 in the PIF ATP ranking on Saturday lower Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-4, 6-2 to start his Rolex Shanghai Masters campaign. “I am happy with myself. It is a great achievement to show the consistency,” said the Minaur after the victory in his first Lexus ATP Head2head meeting with Carabelli. “I feel that I was probably able to break that record last year if I was not injured. To come back this year and just show that consistency week-in and week out, I am very proud of my efforts.
“That saying, there is still a lot of tennis to play, so hopefully I can continue to overcome that count. Keep doing what I do, keep my head down, keep working hard, keep showing up and keeping the confidence and the momentum just maintaining.”
The Minaur, who, according to Infosys ATP statistics, was not a breaking point against Carabelli, now has a tour leading 35 victories over hard courts in 2025, for Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz (both at 34). The next challenge of the Australian in Shanghai will be a meeting of the fourth round with Kamil Majchrzak, who beat the 29th seed of Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-0 to continue.
Another top 10 star, Alexander Zverev, also achieved a straight victory in his Shanghai opener, although the German had to cancel a late injury anxiety before he sinks Valentin Royer 6-4, 6-4.
Zverev seemed to injure his right toe when serving before the game on 5-4 in the second set, and he was treated by the ATP Physio after the first point of the game. The injury did not prevent the world no. 3 from serving comfortably for his victory, but he later acknowledged that he felt uncertainty about how serious a problem it could be.
‘I am very happy [to get through]”Said Zverev.” I don’t know, I landed funny on my toe and after that I could hardly take a step, so we’ll see what it is. Of course not happy to end the game like that, but I am absolutely happy with the level in the first round of a masters. That was pretty good. He plays very well and goes ahead, we will see if I will be healthy again this year, because it has been a struggle. But I am happy to be through. ”
See how Zverev Injonge -Schrik survives in the opener of Shanghai:

Auger-Aliassime stays in 10th place, but is only 590 points behind Lorenzo Musetti in the last qualifying place. Zverev strives to be eligible for the Nitto ATP finals for the eighth time, while both the Minaur and Auger-Aliasses chase a second performance.
