“Within five years our goal is to make the India’s car industry the number one in the world. It is difficult, but not impossible,” said Gadkari during the seventh car shop of the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA).
He said that the quality of vehicles made in India is good and that the costs are less, so all the top machines are present in the country.
“When I took the lead as Minister of Transport, the size of the Indian car industry was £ 14 Lakh Crore and it has now risen to £ 22 Lakh Crore, compared to £ 78 Lakh Crore in the US and £ 47 Lakh Crore in China,” Gadkari said.
Every year India spends £ 22 Lakh Crore for importing fossil fuels that cause pollution, he said.
The minister said that Indian companies produce electric cars, buses and trucks because they are very cost -effective. “The costs of lithium ion batteries also fall. After a while the price of gasoline, diesel vehicles and electric vehicles will be the same,” he said.
