“I just heard that the Cricket World Cup is going on in India! I wish TEAM USA the best of luck! We have a very strong team. America supports you!” Trump said this in a post on Truth Social on Sunday.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor commented on the post saying, “Thank you for the kind words, Mr. President!” India, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, defeated the US team by 29 runs in the opening match played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
The US is not a traditional cricket country and the team currently consists largely of players of Indian descent. The American team is led by Monank Patel.
The USA co-hosted the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with matches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium at Eisenhower Park in New York.
The much-awaited match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan was played at the venue in New York.
