New York President Donald Trump attends the US open as a guest of Rolex on Sunday, despite the imposition of steep rates at the home country of the Swiss watchmaker and with organizers who want to keep outside the right-hand turns-as members of the audience hunt him on the TV broadcast.
Trump has built most of the domestic journey of his second term to large sporting events instead of going to make policy announcements or to tackle the kind of large rallies that he enjoyed as a candidate.
He will keep an eye on the men’s final between the second placed Carlos Alcaraz, a 22-year-old Spaniard, and number 1 seed and title defender Jannik Sinner24, from Italy, from Rolex’s Suite.
The acceptance of the President of Rolex’s invitation comes just a few weeks after the Trump government had imposed a no less than 39% rate on Swiss products.
The levy is more than 2½ times higher than the person with whom the Trump administration has been agreed for goods from the European Union that were exported to the US and almost four times higher than on British exports to the US, asked questions about the ability of Switzerland to compete with the 27-person block that the neighborhood.

Trump was born in Queens, the home of the US Open, and had been a real estate magnate in New York for decades and later a reality TV star. Attending the tournament before he was a politician, he was usually in the balcony of the suite during night matches and was often shown on the video screens of the Arena.
In recent years, however, Trump lived, including between his presidential terms, mainly on his estate in Florida, Mar-A-Lago.
Alcaraz said before the final that Trump would be a privilege and “great for tennis”, but also suggested that such a sentiment went for every president who looked out of the stands.
“I will try not to be focused, and I’ll try not to think about it,” said Alcaraz about the presence of Trump. “I don’t want me to be nervous because of that.”
Trump waved on Saturday in the Virginia Club Buiten Washington, because he has many recent weekends as soon as the summer weather became too hot for playing in the Mar-A-Lago area. But the president has also often attended sporting events – where the crowd of the crowd sometimes contains people who rush the president while others encourage him.
Since the return to the White House in January and prior to Sunday’s US Open, Trump went to the Super Bowl in New Orleans and the Daytona 500, as well as UFC battles in Miami and Newark, New Jersey, the NCAA Wrestling Championships in East Fifhery Club Club.
It is unusual that a sitting president is present and, before Trump, had not happened since Bill Clinton went to the 2000 tournament. Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, attended the opening evening of the event in 2023.
