Trump imposes new tariffs on these EU countries over Greenland: will BTC collapse again?

So far, BTC has remained quiet.

US President Donald Trump, who continues to argue that his country should control the island, has just announced a new set of tariffs against all countries that have sent troops.

In a post on his social media platform TruthSocial, the POTUS said the tariffs will affect Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland.

Initially, the tax will be 10% on all goods shipped to the US from February 1, 2026. However, if there is no deal on the Greenland takeover before June 1, rates will rise to 25%.

In his statement, Trump emphasized that a deal would mean a “complete and total purchase of Greenland,” which he said is essential to his country’s national security.

In a separate post on X, the analysts at Kobeissi Letter write estimated that $1.2 trillion of annual bilateral trade will be affected under these new tariffs. They also claimed that the potential takeover of Greenland would cost the US approximately $700 billion.

They warned that the US-EU trade war, which started shortly after Trump’s inauguration last year, has just “escalated to a whole new level” as it is clear that Greenland has become the POTUS’s “top strategic focus”.

Recall that BTC’s price was among the worst performing assets last year when Trump announced the first wave of tariffs against numerous countries. It dropped from the then ATH of $110,000 to less than $75,000 in just a few months.

Trump’s announcement earlier today has not yet damaged the price development of bitcoin. The cryptocurrency is trading inches above $95,000 and has shown little to no movement over the past 24 hours.
