Doctors of the White House have diagnosed President Donald Trump with chronic venous insufficiency after he had noticed swelling in his legs, the White House announced on Thursday.
Pers Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Trump, 79, recently undergone tests to investigate the swelling, including diagnostic vascular studies and an ultrasound of his legs, which revealed the veinstonition.
According to Johns Hopkins MedicineChronic venous insufficiency occurs when veins are struggling in the legs to make blood flow back to the heart, often as a result of damaged valves in the veins. The condition affects approximately 1 in 20 adults.
Dr. Ali Azizadeh, professor and director of vascular surgery at Cedars-SINAI Medical Center, says the time that the condition is “a common diagnosis and it is not dangerous,”
“It is more that it disturbs the patient, with regard to the swelling and the pain and the discomfort,” he says, adding that it is not a condition that probably influences Trump’s life expectancy.
Leavitt provided the health update in the midst of online speculation about visible swelling around Trump’s ankles and bruises on his hands, of which she said the latter was due to his “frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.”
Although chronic venous insufficiency is not life threatening, according to the Cleveland ClinicIt can lead to serious complications if it remains untreated – including leg swearing, pulmonary embolism, deep venous thrombosis and secondary lymphedema. There is no cure for the condition, but compression therapy and exercise can help manage symptoms.

Leavitt said that the testing of his doctor Dr. Sean Barbabella found no evidence of deep vein stream or arterial disease and an echocardiogram showed a normal heart structure and function. The doctor wrote in a memo shared with reporters after the briefing that all the results of testing were “within normal boundaries” and that an echocardiogram showed “normal heart structure and function”.
“President Trump remains in excellent health,” wrote Barbabella in the Memo.
Leavitt added that Trump feels no discomfort of the circumstances.
Trump underwent his annual physical in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in April. A report from his doctor discovered that according to the White House the president was “in excellent health” at the time.
