Omar has seemingly remained unfazed by Trump’s threats.

Donald Trump has apparently had enough of Representative Ilhan Omar and her progressive ways.

The president told the Minnesota lawmaker to go back to her country, even though Omar had U.S. citizenship. Trump lashed out at the congressman on his favorite social platform, Truth Social. On his right-leaning social media hub, the president shared a clip of Omar speaking what is believed to be Somali while writing an unwelcome caption.

“She should go back,” Trump claimed.

The clip, while unverified, suggested Omar said: “Somalia is our home. It is our heart. We always think about Somalia.” According to Politicswhen the event took place remains unknown, but the clip has circulated in right-wing online spheres.

Despite the limited information behind the video, Omar has faced right-wing hatred for her progressive policy views and heritage. Omar currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and advocates for many policies, such as universal healthcare and the abolition of ICE, that directly contradict Trump.

Trump has recently stepped up his attacks on Omar, even claiming that he has asked the Somali president to take her back. His officials have also continued their attacks on Omar’s status as a U.S. citizen.

“Did you know that I met the head of Somalia, did you know that?” he joked to reporters in the Oval Office in September. “And I suggested that he might want to take her back. He said, ‘I don’t want her.'”

Born in Somalia, Omar came to the U.S. as a child after spending four years in a Kenyan refugee camp due to the East African country’s civil war. She became a citizen in 2000 and later served as a legislator for the people of Minnesota.

The increased attention to her status in the country remains alarming to many, especially given Trump’s deportation efforts. However, Omar has stated that she does not feel shocked by Trump’s threats. She also noted the increase in Islamophobic attacks on Muslim lawmakers like herself and New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

“I’m not worried, I don’t know how they would take away my citizenship and deport me,” Omar said on an October 31 episode of The Dean Obeidallah Show. “But I don’t even know why that’s such a scary threat. Like I’m no longer the 8-year-old who escaped the war. I’m an adult, my children are adults. Like I could live wherever I want if I wanted to. It’s strange to wake up every day and include that in every conversation: ‘we’re going to deport Ilhan.’ [Omar].’”

The 43-year-old started her political career as a state representative before transitioning to national politics. Omar has represented Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019.
