TrueNorth Raises $3M to Build Domain-Specific AI for Finance

54% of investors now use ChatGPT for trading and investing decisions. Only 11% trust the results. That gap, between the promise of AI and its spectacular failure in the markets, represents billions in misallocated capital. The pre-seed round, led by CyberFund with participation from Delphi Labs, SNZ, GSR and Ocular, will fund what the team calls “the reasoning layer for financial intelligence”: domain-specific AI that doesn’t hallucinate when money is on the line.

The common AI problem: fast markets, slow models

Drawing on experiences at Meta, Temasek, and Goldman Sachs, the TrueNorth team has recognized firsthand how generic models hallucinate, miss market context, and lack the structural reasoning that professional traders use to navigate volatility.

“Generalized AI is breaking down in financial environments,” said Willy Chuang, co-founder of TrueNorth. “Markets move too fast, the context is too deep and mistakes are too costly. Domain-specific financial information is not optional; it is the future. And we are the first to deliver it.”

This insight formed TrueNorth’s core tenet that financial AI must be specialized, real-time, and based on expert reasoning. The platform turns the expertise of elite traders into AI agents through structured playbooks, real-time data fusion, and proprietary models specifically trained on market logic.

The first results confirm the approach. Internal benchmarking shows 98% accuracy on finance-specific tasks, a 28% improvement over leading general-purpose models, while reducing latency by 80%. Beta users show a 30-day retention rate of 33%, about double the industry average.
