On Saturday morning, Edmonton Oilers netminder Tristan Jarry made his first full team skate since his injury. He had been skating alone and during optional/limited team skates, but he looks good to return, which head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed after the pre-game skate.
Knoblauch said Jarry’s return could happen this week.
Jarry is undefeated in three starts for the Oilers this season, but he pulled himself from a game when something wasn’t right. He was ruled out for a few weeks and hasn’t returned since. Jarry’s placement on LTIR was retroactive to December 18, meaning he can return as early as Monday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Oilers have gone 5-4 in Jarry’s absence, with both Connor Ingram and Calvin Pickard splitting starts and performing quite well. Ingram has won three of five, looks calm in goal and had just one outing that wasn’t where the Oilers needed him to secure the backup role.
What’s next for the Oilers in Goal?
Jarry’s return will raise questions about which goalie the Oilers keep. The easiest thing to do would be to send Ingram back, as he is exempt from waivers for a few more games. But it could be Pickard that the Oilers are considering moving. Granting him a waiver would be a risk.
