Travis Konecny has played just 22 playoff games in his 10-year NHL career — and hasn’t appeared in the postseason since 2019-20 — and it looks like that’s starting to take its toll.
After a strong start to 2025-26, the Philadelphia Flyers have stalled, going 4-9-2 in their last 15 games and seeing their playoff chances drop significantly. As a result, frustrations begin to boil over in the City of Brotherly Love, with Konecny leading the way.
The star winger expressed that frustration after Thursday night’s loss in Boston to the Bruins, which marked their third straight loss and fourth in five games.
Konecny said:
“I’ve been through this so many times. I’m tired of missing the play-offs. That’s really all I’m looking at right now, I just want to get points for the team. I have to think of something,”
Konecny, 28, is only in the first year of the eight-year, $70 million extension he signed with the Flyers in 2024. He is in the midst of another highly productive season, having collected 50 points (21 goals, 29 assists) in 52 games played.
Will Travis Konecny join the director in Philadelphia?
This was a question many were asking before Konecny extended his long term in Philadelphia, and given that the Flyers don’t appear to be particularly close to legitimate contenders, this question has come to light again.
General manager Daniel Brière has done a relatively good job of injecting prospects into the system, with Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone emerging as the most promising. That said, the timeline for winning with these two (and others) in the lead doesn’t appear to be in the immediate future, which makes it fair to wonder how many more frustrating seasons Konecny will have to endure before the team truly turns the corner.
For a player who is in his prime and approaching his thirties, that can be difficult. Konecny embodies everything it means to be a Flyer and play in Philadelphia; However, the desire to win and play meaningful postseason hockey trumps all, so if these results continue, there’s no doubt this will be a situation to keep an eye on.
While it may be putting the cart before the horse, Brière and company would have competing teams across the league calling non-stop if Konecny ever became available, and the return package could be exactly what’s needed for what they’re building towards.
