We wish you a happy Monday! This week we start as usual with travel news here at Freedomtravel. This week it’s about coffee experiences and Christmas activities (yes, it’s autumn now!) and that Swedish premium travelers are willing to leave their travel companions in economy class…

The High Coast beats new records: All Time High Summer

The High Coast’s offerings continue to attract visitors and the destination is among the fastest growing in Sweden. Preliminary statistics from the Swedish Growth Agency show that summer 2025 will see a record summer for the High Coast with a total of 400,686 commercial guest nights for June, July and August – an increase of 20.2 percent compared to last summer.

Swedes fly more luxuriously – and leave the company in economy class

For many Swedes it seems to be becoming increasingly important to travel comfortably. According to new data from hotel and travel site Momondo, searches for premium alternatives to aviation increased by as much as 73 percent in September-October compared to July-August.

The research also shows that some Swedish travelers are unwilling to compromise on comfort – even if it means being put in a different class to their travel company. Almost a third can imagine flying in a different travel class or booking more expensive accommodation than the travel company can afford. However, almost one in five Swedes can imagine that their fellow travelers will receive an upgrade, so that the entire group can travel together.

The coffee experience is becoming increasingly important in hotels

Data from Hotels.com shows that hotels have understood the importance of a good cup of coffee to enhance the hotel experience. Positive reviews mentioning ‘coffee’ have increased by 35 percent from the previous year – a sign that a good cup of coffee is becoming increasingly important to hotel guests.

Hotels with a strong focus on coffee have seen a significant increase in searches on Hotels.com in the run-up to International Coffee Day (October 1). Sparkling Christmas at the Nordic Museum

From the first Advent, the pompous Christmas tree stands in the Great Hall and the Nordic Museum is decorated. This year’s guest grandparent is Gustav Broström who, with a deep love for vintage, second-hand, reuse and old objects, dresses his spruce “Winter Sky” with stars and steel wire sunbathers and cake tins that form shining constellations in his own cosmos. Highlights from the Christmas program:

  • November 22 and 23: July workshop with designer Bea Szenfeld
  • November 30: Christmas Inauguration – Family Day with activities
  • December 7: Christmas gift market
  • December 12 and 13: Lucia concert with the music lessons of Adolf Fredrik and the Lux string quartet.

This week’s reflection

Would you like to book a seat in first class or business class yourself while the travel company offers economy class? So if you are a somewhat larger or somewhat loosely cohesive group, it is not strange if everyone has different tickets and sits in different places. Do you also think that some people need to travel more easily to manage a long trip? But in some cases, if it’s a small, close-knit group or a family, it might feel strange… what do you think?
