Toyota has published its US market sales for January 2026, revealing some very interesting insights. This includes the continuation of the Toyota Camry‘s immensely successful run, with the hybrid-only mid-size sedan at the very top of the Japanese brand’s electrified sales chart.

Toyota introduced the completely new generation Camry as an exclusive hybrid in the last half of 2024, which turns out to be a good decision based on sales performance alone. The number of midsize sedans has slowly declined over the past decade, while SUVs and crossovers continue to grow in popularity. This doesn’t appear to affect the Camry, which has always been a base option among many American new car buyers.

Before January 2026, Toyota managed to sell no less than 21,759 individual copies of the car Camry. This reflects a 10.1 percent increase in sales compared to the model’s performance in the same month last year. Most of Toyota’s electrified range is suffering a sales decline this month, but the Camry is turning the catalog around into a much more successful HEV offering.

For comparison: the soon to be replaced Toyota RAV4 hybrid sold 5,017 individual units, resulting in a 73.1 percent year-over-year sales decline. This excludes the 800 units of the PHEV that Toyota sold, which led to a 63.4 percent drop in sales. This dramatic drop in sales is due to Toyota ending production of this model in preparation for the completely new hybrid-only generationwith deliveries starting before March.

Competitive pricing remains a key strategy

Price remains a fundamental part of why the Camry continues to set new sales records and dramatically outpace the rest of Toyota’s electrified catalog. Toyota starts the range at $29,100 for the base model with LE front-wheel drive, making it the most competitively priced hybrid car in the segment. A lower starting price for a newer car will always be a strong strategy, a factor that is clearly reflected in sales results.

The most expensive Camry option is the XSE, which starts at $35,500. Toyota offers the all-wheel drive system in all trims for an additional $1,525. All of these prices do not include the brand’s $1,195 destination charge. There are some optional extras available for all trims, but these are relatively far and few, as the brand prefers a more defined pricing strategy with five trims.

The current generation Camry range carries over the familiar naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine from the previous generation, which separately produces 184 hp and 163 Nm of torque.

The front-wheel drive model has a pair of electric motors generating a combined power of 134 horsepower and 153 pound-feet. Toyota doesn’t give us a combined torque figure, but confirms that it limits peak power to 225 hp. The all-wheel drive model adds a third electric motor to the rear axle, producing 40 hp, increasing peak power to 232 hp.

The Camry is only offered with a hybrid powertrain. Some experts will certainly lament this strategic decision, decrying the loss of the standard four-cylinder engine and optional V-6, but for Toyota, this is 100 percent the right choice.

Toyota doesn’t release performance specs on this car, so we can’t tell you how fast it is, but Edmunds reveals that the front-wheel drive model will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in around 7.8 seconds, making it slightly faster than its rivals, while MotorTrend confirms a sprint result from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds for the all-wheel drive model.

Prioritizing efficiency without compromise

The main reason you would even consider a new Toyota Camry is to save fuel. The front-wheel drive LE is the most efficient model, returning 53/50/51 MPG in the city/highway/combined cycle, with a range of 600 miles from the 13-gallon tank. It also states that this will save you up to $4,000 in fuel costs every five years and it will cost $1.59 to drive every 25 miles.

The four-wheel drive XSE is the least economical model, but this is only by a fraction. The EPA states it returns a 44/43/44 MPG result with a claim of 572 miles and suggests this will save you up to $3,250 in fuel costs every five years and costs $1.84 to drive every 25 miles. Expect to pay $41 to refill the 13 gallon tankincluded in all derivatives.

The Camry’s name has influence in the US

The 2026 Toyota Camry continues to be a powerhouse in the US market by successfully transforming itself into a highly efficient mid-size sedan with an extra premium touch without losing its relative affordability. As fuel costs continue to rise amid a degree of economic uncertainty, Toyota’s strategic pivot to an exclusive hybrid offering across all trims has strengthened its relevance, especially against those prioritizing fully electric cars and SUVs.

The success in the first month of 2026 proves that the brand’s value proposition, the best of both worlds, is a sensible strategy. The new generation model features much-needed interior refinement and digital technology, on par with some of its more expensive alternatives, while maintaining bulletproof reliability and low maintenance costs that have defined the nameplate throughout its existence.

As the market continues to shift toward crossovers, the Camry is attracting a huge group of pragmatic buyers, commuters and families who prioritize long-term resale value and predictable ownership over the rugged image of an SUV. The added benefit of an optional all-wheel drive system, available across the range, means Toyota has effectively neutralized the main reason why buyers previously fled sedans, leaving the Camry as the gold standard for sensible, advanced American transportation.
