Tottenham Porro says we don’t have the mentality

Tottenham have been sailing on a steady trajectory lately, avoiding complete disaster but not exactly brimming with success. This is certainly the case in this season’s Champions League campaign, where we have only won once and drawn twice.

Speaking of this Tottenham form in Europe, defender Pedro Porro hinted that he was enjoying a bright moment and playing a key role in Thomas Frank’s team. However, this is tempered by our poor form in Europe. In the dressing room after the match, where Spurs had survived a 23-shot barrage from Monaco thanks to goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s eight saves, Porro delivered a grim assessment to his teammates.

Despite this, he does not seem to be consolidating his form in the Champions League, where we have one win and two draws

“We are not in a bad situation, but let’s hope for a second win. Recently, during the draw against Monaco, I said it in the dressing room: we don’t have the mentality, and in this competition they run over you, and you don’t even realize it.”

Porro stressed the need for a stronger mentality to succeed in Europe’s elite competition, warning that failures could lead to heavy defeats. This comes amid Tottenham’s mixed start to the 2025/26 Champions League season, with the draw leaving them in search of their second win.

What Porro’s teammates made of this is anyone’s guess, but at least it’s not the usual purified toffee we’re fed by the club.

Frankly, this has been a lament aimed at Tottenham for decades, but to hear it from a senior character like Porro is both refreshing and alarming. I believe that the culture of any organization comes from the top, and that the sooner Spurs get rid of the culture that Daniel Levy and Donna Marie Cullen have imposed on all of us, the better.
