Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, according to Spanish newspaper Transfers.

The Lilywhites currently have Guglielmo Vicario as their first-choice goalkeeper, with Antonin Kinsky signed last winter to support the Italian. Brandon Austin is the third option.

However, Vicario has struggled to consistently perform at his best in recent times, making several high-profile mistakes. On the other hand, Kinsky has failed to push Vicario to the No. 1 position.

Now, Transfers states that Thomas Frank is keen to sign a new goalkeeper, who could challenge Vicario for the number 1 position, and Spurs have identified Lunin as a serious option.

After struggling to find regular playing time at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, the Ukrainian is open to leaving this year to play regularly and develop his career.

With the 26-year-old still under contract until 2030, Los Blancos are in a strong position to demand a large fee to let their second-choice goalkeeper leave. There is a £22 million price tag on his head.

Tottenham are currently leading the race to sign Lunin, and in addition to the north London club, Nottingham Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion are also leading candidates to secure his services.

Lunin to Tottenham

The report claims that Manchester United made a move to sign him last summer before buying Senne Lammens, and it remains to be seen if they revive their interest in signing the Real Madrid star.

Amid Thibaut Courtois’ injury absence, Lunin played regularly under Carlo Ancelotti a few seasons ago, helping his side win the Champions League and La Liga.

He is 1.80 meters tall, is still very young and still has plenty of room to develop. Therefore, he could be a smart signing for the Lilywhites if they were to acquire him.

However, it will be interesting to see whether the north London club ultimately manages to lure the Ukraine international away from the Spanish capital in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, after a disappointing defeat to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, Tottenham will face Aston Villa in the FA Cup this weekend.
