The former world number 1 is still convinced he can win a Grand Slam title before the end of his career, but he is well aware that it will take a combination to make his dream come true.
The Serbian ace had the ability to raise his level in the Majors again this year, always reaching the semi-finals and becoming the oldest player ever to achieve the feat. At the same time, he has never been able to move forward and even his body has betrayed him more than once.
For this reason, the 38-year-old from Belgrade has decided to make some changes to his preparation ahead of the 2026 season. Nole will participate in an official tournament – the Adelaide ATP 250 – ahead of the Australian Open with the aim of getting into the rhythm, as he has not played an official match since the final of the tournament in Athens.
Nole is looking for another legendary performance
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has always had a special feeling at the AO, where he has triumphed ten times and written tennis history.
Paul Annacone – former coach of legends such as Pete Sampras and Roger Federer – discussed Novak’s chances next season on ‘Tennis Channel’: “My heart says he can still win a Grand Slam, but my mind says the opposite. I think it is becoming more and more difficult for him. He will have to compete against many great players and winning seven matches in the best of five sets is very tough at his age. I think it is too big a challenge.
At the same time, it would be a serious risk to bet against a champion like him: legends are the exception, not the rule.”
Nole’s plan would be to continue competing until the summer of 2028, when the Olympic Games will take place in Los Angeles and he will be able to represent Serbia for the last time.
