As the New York Rangers Start with their 100th season in the competition, they want to create more memorable moments. Here are the five best moments of the 2020s so far.
#5: Start the play-offs with 7-0 after winning the presidents trophy
The most successful season of the Rangers this decade was in 2023-24. The season before they were eliminated from the play -offs in round 1 by the New Jersey Devils. The Rangers opened the score before the islanders scored three goals in 3:14 to take a 3-1 lead after the first period. They scored again to bring the score to 4-1 to start the second, but the Rangers fought back to bring the score to 4-3 to end the second.
Another islanders aim of starting the third period placed the Rangers behind 5-3. With a power play less than five minutes to go in the game and Igor Shesterkin pulled for a five-on-three advantage, Chris Kreider cut the shortage to one. The islanders then took another penalty and Mika Zibanejad scored to bind the game.
It only took 10 seconds in the extension for Artemi Panarin to help the Rangers complete the comeback victory (after assessment). Despite a large part of the competition, they fought back in one of the best finishes for an offside in the recent memory.
#3: Zibanejad’s five-goal game
The 2019-2020 season was the Breakout campaign of Zibanejad. Despite missing time due to injury, Zibanejad proved that he could be a top center in the NHL, with 41 goals and 75 points in 57 games, including a performance of five goals in March 2020 against the Capitals at Madison Square Garden (MSG).
At that time, the Rangers fought for their play-off lives, and finally made it, but were eliminated in the play-in round when the NHL returned to play from the COVID-19 break in 2020. Zibanejad scored five of the six goals of his team, including the winner of the overtime on an alpay.
