Tom Aspinall says he has stopped training for the time being

Fans will have to wait longer than expected for Tom Aspinall’s return as the UFC heavyweight kingpin is currently not training after his UFC 321 title fight ended due to an accidental eye poke.

Aspinall entered the octagon to defend his undisputed title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321. However, the fight was stopped in the first round itself after Gane accidentally stabbed the Brit in the eye. Aspinall was unable to continue even after the five-minute recovery time, after which the fight was declared a no-contest and he retained his belt.

However, fans questioned the legitimacy of Aspinall’s condition, with some even claiming that the Briton found an easy way out when he was losing.

Aspinall recently updated fans about his eye injury.

The injury is much more serious than anyone had assumed, and the UFC heavyweight champion is currently not cleared to fight or even train. He said:

“There’s talk of eye surgery. I’m not in the gym training right now…Right now we just have to focus on health. That’s all I can control right now. We’ll cross that bridge when I feel better.”
