What does your opponent do the most threatening? It is important to find this as early as possible in a competition – or, ideally, before the competition starts. That is why it is important to explore opponents, by watching them live or on video or asking others about them.
Once you know what their strengths are, it is very simple: how can you destroy it? Because if you can’t, you’ve already lost.
Suppose a player is really good in serving backspin and then a long push to use a simple example. He can’t be stopped !!! Unless . . . You don’t give him the long push he likes to walk. And on most levels, most players often just serve back, again and again, even if the opponent is effective to attack them.
Instead, find out early how he can stop his strength. In this case you have a number of options and it is always astonishing how so many players don’t think of these things, or-Vaker-Denk don’t think about it at the tableAnd only after the competition finds out. So how would you stop this? If the serve is even somewhat long, it will run. (If you can’t, learn it.) If it is short, then you have all kinds of options. Turn around. Push briefly. Push long but very quickly from the bouncing and quickly and in a large angle. Push long but super heavy or with different spider under large corners. Perhaps discuss it with other players or coaches, and they can have suggestions. Find what works!
If you cannot do what is needed to stop the power of the opponent, then it is up to you to develop what is needed to do this. . . For the next time. Go there!
