NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens and Sidney Crosby Cost
Steve Kouleas: “Let’s go there for a moment. Okay, tribute aside, nobody does it better than the Montreal Canadiens. Nobody does it better, as far as an Insider with Sirius 87 and its youth team. Come on, Dave. It’s a sexy subject.”
Dave Pagnotta: “Yes, it is, and I’m sure it’ll come up a few times throughout the season, Kooli. Look, I’m just still of the mind that if something happens, it’s just not going to happen this year. And there’s a lot of different factors that come into play. How the Penguins are doing saying they’re bad, but you’ve got the potential last drive of Geno (Evgeni) Malkin.”
He talked at the beginning of the season about him, Sid and Kris Letang, Penguins forever. So we’ll see how that story unfolds. If they have a shot at Gavin McKenna first overall, if they win the lottery. Can they replicate how Sid entered the league with Mario (Lemieux) by his side, and have Sid be the man for Gavin with a year left on his contract?
NHL Rumors: There will be players who want to wait until July 1st
I’m not quite there yet, and I understand, everyone, there’s also a lot of people around Sid who are like, ‘Hey, just go get another one. Go somewhere else. Don’t you want to keep it up? Don’t you want to add anything to your ring collection?’
I think he does to some extent, but at the same time he’s just, he wants, I think he’s being sincere, completely sincere, completely sincere in saying he just wants to stay with the Penguins. So let’s see how that goes. Let’s see how the Olympics go. You know, maybe time can change things.
But for now, I still love the storyline. I like the subject. It’s sexy. It could certainly be attractive if the Habs are in it to get him in there. But I just want to temper expectations, at least put on the brakes a little for the time being.”
