Zyon Pullin went undrafted in 2024 and had a brief stint in the NBA last season with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he played a total of three minutes in three games.
After signing a training camp deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the offseason, he was fired shortly thereafter and assigned to their G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. It was an incredible start to the season for Pullin, which led to him being named G League Player of the Month for November.
Pullin scores with incredible efficiency
The Wolves are off to a 6-2 start this season. They average an absurd 137.8 points per game, more than 7 points higher than any other team. Three Iowa players are averaging more than 20 points, led by Pullin.
The 24-year-old guard is posting averages of 27.7 points, 3 rebounds and 5.7 assists in his seven appearances. That scoring average ranks second in the G League, trailing only Ron Harper Jr. of the Maine Celtics. What is really remarkable is the efficiency with which Pullin scores. So far, he is shooting 66.7 percent from the field, 54.5 percent from three-point range and 90.3 percent from the foul line.

In his last three games, Pullin is averaging 34.3 points. Remarkably, in the Wolves’ most recent outing against the Motor City Cruise on November 29, he scored 32 while making just 10 field goals.
It is the second straight season in which an Iowa player has received Player of the Month honors, both times in November. Last year, current Timberwolves player Leonard Miller was also named top player of the month.
It’s not just Pullin who is performing like a top G League player for Iowa
Pullin is definitely a worthy recipe for G League Player of the Month in November. However, no one would have batted an eye if his teammate received that award.
Guard Tristen Newton is also off to an incredible start. He has played in all eight games for the Wolves so far this season and is averaging 27.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 2.4 steals. The scoring, assists and steals rank third, third and ninth respectively in the G League.
Newton was selected in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft and was claimed off waivers by the Timberwolves in February. He played in three games for the NBA team last season and previously played five with the Pacers.
