Sometimes it can’t say something at all is a louder explanation than a scream at the top of your lungs. I think that is a sentiment that applies to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Rob Dillingham while we get closer to the start of the next NBA season.
The movements of the Timberwolves to re -sign a few of their most important boys this summer indicates their belief in this core in the long term. However, it is their inactivity when it comes to upgrading the position of the Point Guard that points to an internal belief in Rob Dillingham.
It is not to be denied that Mike Conley is currently beyond his prime. He is still rightly one of the most popular players in Minnesota. I have previously stated that the love of this fan base is unwavering to him, and at the same time I think the fans acknowledge that this team is simply not the best with him that he plays 30 minutes a night.
We had long thought that there was still a possibility that the Timberwolves could complement the end of the season to upgrade their ball treatment and take a load from Conley. Now that Malcolm Brogdon has signed with the New York Knicks, it makes that possibility much less likely, especially when you consider that we are less than three weeks away from media days in the competition.
The Timberwolves will probably rely more on Rob Dillingham this season
Instead, it seems much more likely scenario that Minnesota uses what they already have and leaning more in Rob Dillingham minutes. The emerging second -year player did not get that much combustion in the year one that many may have thought, but this season could be his chance.
I think what we saw last season was a coaching staff who wanted to lean most time in his veterans in his veterans. This strategy was implemented for obvious reasons, with a team that had just brought a new core piece in Julius Randle and had to make things work quickly.
Now it feels like Chris Finch and his staff may have a little more leeway when it comes to their thinking about this. They have re -signed their most important core and it is no longer a contract year for crucial documents.
Why should you not allow Dillingham to go full with this new scenario? You know what kind of talent you have in him, so you might as well give him a little longer belt and see what happens. Things seem to stand in line for the young person to have an excellent chance.
