A mysterious buyer has secured a spot atop one of New York’s most coveted buildings.

Penthouse G at 443 Greenwich Street sold for $40 million, according to public records. The identities of the seller and buyer were shielded by limited companies.

The house was on the market for less than 24 hours and sold for full asking price, reflecting the insatiable demand among wealthy buyers for trophy units in Downtown Manhattan.

The penthouse previously housed Hollywood’s Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, who bought the apartment for $20 million in 2017. The couple sold it to an anonymous buyer in 2022 for $29 million, who turned around and put it on the market for $35 million just two months later, but took it off the market later that year.

Corcoran’s Noble Black had the last entry.

The four-bedroom penthouse spans 5,300 square feet and features a private wraparound terrace of nearly 2,650 square feet, designed by landscape architect Edmund Hollander. Each of the four bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom and the master suite takes up the entire north wing, with a private sitting area, a steel-encased gas fireplace, dual walk-in closets and an ensuite bathroom with a freestanding bath enclosed by floor-to-ceiling windows and a rain dome steam shower and body sprays.

The 53-unit Tribeca project, developed by MetroLoft and designed by CetraRuddy, has been a hit with celebrity residents since its launch in 2014. Privacy-oriented amenities include an underground parking garage with valet parking and a resident-only courtyard.

Amenities also include a 22-metre indoor pool with Turkish baths, a fitness center and wine storage.

The building has counted high-profile stars such as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Lawrence and Harry Styles among its residents. A number of them have moved in recent years, including Jake Gyllenhaal, who sold his apartment for $14 million in August.

Penthouse H, which Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton sold for $49.5 million in 2021, still holds the record for the most expensive unit sold in the building after trading for $51 million in 2023.
