Racing wa farewell to Tim Walker this week after an incredible 10 years in the air and behind the scenes in Tabradio while he starts his next trip as a communication coordinator at the Waca, a huge loss for the Race industry here in the West.

Tim Walker

A love for racing saw him excel in Racing Wa, but his true love and passion has always been in cricket and in the coming weeks he starts his new role in the field.

“I love my cricket. I really love cricket, just as much as I raced, I am a huge cricket fan.

“I worked for 10 years on the racing side of things in the breakfast tradio, and I just thought it was a chance for me to be able to take the next step in my career, and it was just a chance that looked too good to refuse.” Tim Walker said.

Walking in the studios of what was once in the early December 2015 was racing with radio as a fresh 20-year-old, directly from the university, Tim Walker took the role as the breakfast producer for hosts David Shortte and Richard Bell.

“I started the day after Lenny The Shark won the inters here in Perth, I remember that I was talking about it because it was the day after, it was in the middle of a busy time here in wa.”

Walker took over the hosting role over mid-2019 when Gareth Hall returned to the east, and six years of hosting flew over and saw Walker develop into an incredibly well-rounded racing and sports group, a real promoter of the sport.

“I was lucky to get into the host chair I have done in the last six years,

“It was unreal to think that it was six years old and clearly a great opportunity at the time to be able to speak with people from different codes and different sports.

“I can’t believe it was six years ago, and I can’t believe I was lucky to do it for six years.”

While racing was not always in his blood, his love for industry began in the early 2000s, and witness to northern heights of its greatest heights that the Cox plate eliminates in 2001 and 2002

“Looking how he saw the Cox plate win in 2001 and I remember that I was going to look him in the track in the train and he was actually defeated that day, that was actually the first time I could remember that I was going to the races, I was about six years old.

“And I had a few Friday evening at the pride in primary school, and I always followed the pride, not as religious as the thoroughbred game asked, but I still remember that I grew up the Falcon strike and horses like it grew up, and clearly in Quinny.

“I have had to develop the way I follow the harness racing and how carefully I have followed armor races in the last 10 years.”

Walker graduated from the university in 2015 with a major in journalism, working part -time at Perth Racing, who further developed his love for racing, who got his foot in the door with Tabradio, and this Thursday, July 31, he hangs his headphones and draws a last time.

“It probably only went home last Friday evening when I was here with the pride and it was the last night the Twitter interviews and the Sky Racing, and it probably came home.

“I let so many participants come to me, I had not told me that I was leaving, I was not away and broadcast it openly differently than the last Tuesday morning.

“I think I can continue with most participants, but only people who have always been very reserved and very quiet for interviews, but they came and said:” You did great to promote the sport and thank you so much. “

“And that’s probably when it hit home.

“But I’m just as excited to start my new role.”

It is not farewell, but see you for Tim Walker, who looks forward to going to Gloucester Park on a Friday evening in an informal capacity, enjoying a beer or two at the bar.

“Thursday at 9 am, I think it will be pretty sad to eliminate the microphone and it will be.”

We wish Tim Walker all the success in his new role at the Waca, a position that he will undoubtedly shine.
