Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly opts for the five -year contract of $ 40 million that he signed in 2022. That means Jon Krawczynski On Friday.
Tim Connelly pushed the opt-out clause back in the midst of ownership struggle
The Connelly deal originally had an opt-out clause for the summer of 2024, “something that Connelly negotiated before he signed because of the uncertainty surrounding the ownership of the Timberwolves,” wrote Krawczynski.
Connelly, however, pushed the option a season back to see what would happen with the ownership of the wolves. It turned out that the 2024-25 season became the last campaign where Glen Taylor would have the Timberwolves.
After a lawsuit with regard to those who should possess the NBA franchise with regard to a dispute that Taylor has made with the two parties in question, both Marc Lore and former MLB star Alex Rodriguez were ruled to possess the Wolves after the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.
“Super happy here,” Connelly said at his press conference at the end of the season in June. “It was great, not just with the team, but this whole community really feels like at home. I think you are stuck with me.”
Timberwolves have been converted into a play -off competition
Connelly, 49, has played an important role in configuring a play-off-caliber Wolves selection that has reached the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons.
Hiring Connelly was one of the first major changes that made Rodriguez and tradition when they first came to Minnesota as co-owners at Taylor. They originally had 20% of the club in July 2021.
In June, Lore and Rodriguez finally completed their purchase of the Timberwolves and the Wnba’s Minnesota Lynx for the price tag of $ 1.5 billion with which they matched Taylor.
Since taking over, Connelly has made various remarkable movements.
He traded in 2022 for Rudy Gobert and made one of the best transactions in the franchise history in 2023, when he sent D’Angelo Russell to the Los Angeles Lakers and in exchange Mike Conley, Kickeil Alexander-Walker and three second round picks from the Utah Jazz and Lakers.
Connelly also pulled the tractor over a blockbuster trade that sent old Wolves Big Man Karl-Anthony cities to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Donge Divincenzo.
Matthew Caldwell called Timberwolves, Lynx CEO
For his deal, Connelly chose only a few days after Matthew Caldwell resigned when the Business Operations President of the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers and a 10-year-old deal accepted as CEO of the Timberwolves and Lynx.
According to the News itemCaldwell is starting to supervise [the G League’s] Iowa Wolves ”on 2 September.
He will take responsibilities of interim CEO Kelly LaFerriere, who led the organization during its ownership period. LaFerriere will take on the role of senior adviser of ownership
“I love the NHL. I enjoyed hockey and I am a big fan of it,” said Caldwell. “But the NBA is just a much larger, worldwide platform. I really believe in Marc and Alex and their vision and what they are trying to do. They try to make Minnesota the best in the classroom.”
Caldwell played an important role in transforming the Panthers into back-to-back Stanley Cup champions. He joined the NHL team as CCO in 2014 before he was promoted to CEO in 2016.
