Black Scottish Tiktok takes over the internet and encourages new conversations in the Diaspora.
Although the black diaspora is huge and can be found almost everywhere, the black community of an area has been relatively under the radar so far.
Tiktok apparently revealed the existence of black people who live in Scotland. Although black people have lived in Europe for centuries, black Scots have become the newest phenomenon on the internet.
The rabbit hole in the lives of black Scottish people opened with one tapping toker. Torgi Squire initially posted a video that complained about the weather. His accent immediately attracted attention, with some hearing and seeing a black shot for the first time.

The comments section was rightly flooded with appreciation and surprise of the man’s national heritage. Some hyped the man for his melanin and Scottish accent. Others simply shared their shock that he comes from there.
“I didn’t know we came to Scottish,” called a user.
Another part: “This is the first time I have ever experienced this.”
A woman even said: “Wait a minute !!!! Nice dark skin, locs and a Scottish accent? !!? Oh Naw, new cheat code unlocked.”
On his new celebrity, Squire has expressed how Americans often only see their cultural influence in the media, but this black Scottish Tiktok movement has others who possess the spotlights.
“I have been a whirlwind,” Squire said The guardian. “Americans are held in a bit of an echo room by their media, and their only reference point for Scotland is Braveheart, [Disney’s] Brave, or Shrek. They don’t seem to be much aware of the Diaspora, especially when it comes to the UK, that is perhaps the reason why they have responded with so much curiosity. But it’s not just Americans. I also had comments from people in England, so there is still a surprise on one [B]Lack of person with a Scottish accent on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. ‘
Other black bulkheads then shared their own accents and with ticktok, which resulted in Cameradschap over the Diaspora. On cultures and continents, Black Scottish also shared how they have similarities with black Americans, while they note differences such as their jargon and delicacies.

The internet was obsessed with Roy Woods Jr. Then Squire and colleague Black Scots interviewed about their community. They all discussed how black Americans just learn about the existence of Black Scots. They both acknowledge how a black culture and history are often marked in education and media.

“Media do not show our faces or voices and things like this. So you have no experience with it,” explains Squire. “I couldn’t call a black Scottish entertainer that made it so big, so to speak in America.”
Although they appreciate the interest and support of their American counterparts, Black Scots usually want respect and understanding of their individual cultural difference in the world and within the United Kingdom.
