Thunder Rookie Thomas Sorber until Miss 2025-26 season with torn ACL

Oklahoma City Thunder Rookie Center Thomas Sorber tore the ACL in his right knee and will miss the 2025-26 season, the team announced Friday.

Sorber, the 15th choice in the NBA design of 2025 from Georgetown, sustained the injury on Thursday during a training in Oklahoma City. The 6-foot-10 big man explained after his first-year season for the design with the Hoyas.

His selection made him the first first -year student to be set up in the NBA.

In 24 games (23 Starts) with the Hoyas last season, he had an average of 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals, 2.0 blocks and 31.3 minutes per match while he shoots 53.2% and 72.4% out of the fault line.

Sorber, who was 20 in December, was named third team All-Big East and was a unanimous selection for the Big East All-Freshman team.

His only season with the Hoyas was demolished due to a injury of the grasszel. He underwent an operation for that injury on 15 February and therefore missed the NBA Summer League game with Oklahoma City.

According to College Basketball ReferenceHe finished 11th in total rebounds (203) in the Big East, ninth in offensive rebounds (64), 12th in defensive boards (139), seventh in blocks (49) and 18th in free throws (76).

Sorber is in second place on the Hoyas in scoring and second in the nation in recovery among first -year students.

Thunder continues to lose lottery players due to injuries

The Thunder has already had to deal with injuries for their other recent lottery players in the past.

After OKC Chet Holmgren had selected with the second overall choice in the 2022 design, he missed his entire first season due to a Lisfranc injury in his right foot.

However, Holmgren bounced back the following season by playing in all 92 games, including the play -offs, and he finished second in Rookie of the Year voices.

When Nikola Topic, the 12th general choice of OKC in the 2024 design, also missed the entire last season because of a partially torn ACL in his left knee. The 6-foot-6 guard made his debut in the Summer League out of season this season and on average 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists in six games.

The Thunder opened the 2025-26 season at home against the Houston Rockets on October 21.
