Leithfield Beach -trainer Robbie Holmes hopes that Dreams Pat ($ 46.00ff) “can keep his feet on the floor” in the current group 3 Elite Stride DG Jones Memorial Banks Peninsula Cup HCP Trot.
The $ 40,000 race over 2810m takes place on the grass on Motukarara -Raanbaan at 4.43 pm.
Four -year -old Father Patrick Ruin has been a mystery to Holmes in recent months, but has begun to prove its value in recent runs of the building.
“We went to the Methven tests (August 30) and he brought it all together, neatly home through the middle. Then we went back to the tests in Rangiora (September 3) where he also stayed together. Then of course Oamaru last week where he really won well,” said Holmes.
“He got through the run well. He was done a bit on the beach.”
The consistent improvement in Dreams Pat can recently be set up on the Holmes training regime, as well as deliberately staying away from Addington Raceway.
“He has been under the saddle right now. Staying away from Addington seems to be good. He would make his mistakes in the same places. He is starting to keep his feet on the floor.”
Today it will undoubtedly be the biggest test so far for the rating 52 Trotter who has proven trotters to the highest end of the spectrum, including a millionaire earner and racing favorite Oscar Bonavena ($ 2.60ff).
“He has been on the grass earlier. But he has never been more than 2800 meters. He will follow them and hopefully roll home back to the big long straight,” said Holmes.
“Whatever happens today, he must become smart for cup time, so he keeps racing until then.”
Holmes also controls Cappaha ($ 21.00ff) in Race Eleven The BPTC supports the bone marrow cancer trusts that trot more than 2170m.
“He’s good. He just keeps making mistakes.”
Just like Dreams Pat, Cappaha has had problems with the last corner of his races. Holmes hopes that the more subtle turns will be typical of cappaha grass traces to stay in its course.
“The turns will be a little more generous. He will panic around that last corner. Hopefully the grass will help him and we can help him overcome his mental challenges,” said Holmes.
Holmes also takes an external ride when he connects with the David Thompson trained Acento ($ 3.40FF) in Race Nine The lively lifelong lifestyle mode in Halsmel Mobile Pace more than 2000m.
“She tested nicely and raced well on Methven fresh,” said Holmes.
Her second starts today after completing the second verse, the seven -year -old Golden bait Mare starts the favorite of a wider draw and Holmes suggests that the tactic will depend on the mare’s mare mood.
“She’s pulled a bit. She is the decision maker in whether we will continue or not!”
Today’s program also contains two races for the Blue September fundraising with all the ambassadors from all over the country that participate.
The first is carded as Race 4, the Bruno, Brooke & Leo Support Blue September Trot over 2170m, where Grettymac ($ 4.50F) for Rory McILWRICK and amendment ($ 3.20FF) for Ricky May are current favorites.
Race 7, The Shaddy & Hamesy Blue September Drivers’ Challenge Pace Over 2170m is the other of the two events, where Jake ($ 3.60ff) is the current favorite for John Dunn.
Race One starts today at 11:40 am.
