The countdown to the Thoroughbred make -over Is officially on, and with that comes all excitement, nerves and hard work that prepares not only one, but two special horses for the big stage. Gray magician and imposing ruler are the stars of my journey, and I can no longer be excited with the direction that each of them is striking.
Gray Magician was officially introduced in both Show Hunter and Show Jumper. Although I have experience in the Jumperring, both at the makeover and at Usef-CLASSified shows, the Jagerring is brand new territory for me, making it both nerve-racking and a bit exciting! Hunters require a different type of nail polish, so we have refined his reason, worked on his changes and focus on consistency about fences.
Last month, Gray made light work of the .85m Jumper Division at a local training show, which won valuable miles and trust in the ring. Then we go to a B -Show in the Kentucky Horse Park to give him experience in the Jagerring and let him get acquainted with the atmosphere that the park brings. It was such a privilege to take him into this new chapter, and I am excited to show him on the make -over before he continues his connections for the next phase of his career.
The imposition of ruler, on the other hand, taught me just as much, but in a different way. Initially I had the hope of coming in in the event, but more recently I played with the idea of only showing dressage and sweater. It was difficult to decide how to show him, because he has talent and potential in several disciplines. Last month he went XC training, made light work from benches, ditches and water, and he also participated in a dressage show, with a lot of promise in the ring. In the end, however, I did not decide not to overwhelm him with too many questions immediately. He is still young and learns, and setting him up for success means keeping reasonable and manageable. I have made the decision to concentrate on the show Jumper this year, so that we can channel his energy, reach and courage in one discipline and let him really shine without the extra pressure of juggling with two different rings. Just like Gray Magician, he also goes to a B -show in the Horse Park, which will give him an important mileage and allows him to soak in the atmosphere for the makeover.
I believe that his future is extremely rosy. He has the athletics to go in many directions – whether it is the Jumperring, eventing or even dressage on the road. But with a barn full of horses and new projects that always came in, I had to make the bittersweet decision to mention him on the make -over market. It is never easy to say goodbye to a horse where you put your heart in, but I know he will be an incredible partner for the right person. He is exactly the kind of prospect that an ambitious amateur or professional would be very happy to take with you, and I can’t wait to see where his next chapter takes him.
Preparing two horses for the thoroughbred make -over is not a small task – ensuring that both have sufficient training, entered in suitable disciplines and are mentally and physically prepared. But it also comes with the reward of seeing every horse forward, grow and in their potential steps. Gray Magician will eventually return to his connections with more tools in his toolbox, while imposing rulers comes into the spotlight, not only as a competitor, but as a serious prospect for sale. I look forward to presenting both in October – and for a happy rider who is there, perhaps even hand over the reins to their next great partner.
