Angry Tottenham Hotspur fans vocally targeted Thomas Frank after Saturday’s 2-1 London derby defeat at home to West Ham.
“You’re going to be sacked tomorrow morning,” was the chant shouted by thousands of people from the home section of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Frank’s Spurs failed to win for the seventh time in eight games.
Frank and his team also booed loudly as the atmosphere in N17 turned toxic after another dismal result.
West Ham had gone ten games in the Premier League without winning prior to Saturday’s visit to ‘Doctor Tottenham’ – a nickname that has emerged this season as several teams managed to break poor form games against Spurs.
For context, Bournemouth were winless in 11 games before beating Tottenham 3-2 earlier this month. That came shortly after Fulham ended a run of seven games without an away win by beating Spurs in north London.
Thomas Frank comments on the “fired in the morning” chants
Frank was asked about the “fired in the morning” chants at his post-match press conference on Saturday.
He replied: “I’ve probably had better times. I understand, I’m the man in charge. As long as they support the players to push them forward… and we’ll keep moving forward.”
The former Brentford boss also defended his players, claiming they did their best and came “close to something really good” against West Ham.
Frank added: “If we start winning again, that will change. If the players don’t work hard anymore, you can say ‘okay’. But the team is working very hard. We were close to something very good. We could have easily won this 2-1. I feel everyone’s confidence.”
When asked if he had a message for Spurs fans, Frank said: “It’s the perfect storm at the moment. A defeat at the last minute and you get a blow. It’s incredibly difficult to bear. And football is emotional. There’s only one way: keep going.”

Tottenham fans want Thomas Frank fired
In addition to the chants in the stadium, numerous Spurs fans took to social media to call for Frank to leave the club following Saturday’s defeat to the Hammers.
Alongside the hashtag ‘#FrankOut’, one disgruntled fan tweeted: ‘Getting completely outplayed by one of the worst teams in the league. Enough is enough.’
Meanwhile fan account The Spurs Express wrote: “Thomas Frank is the opposite of what a Tottenham manager should be, and is one of the worst managers we have had. The fact that the board consider him worthwhile shows how out of touch they all are with the club. Sack them all.”
Frank also faced calls for his head ten days earlier following a 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth. But it wasn’t just the result and performance that angered Spurs fans on that occasion. Many were also furious that Frank was pictured drinking from a paper cup with the Arsenal logo on it before kick-off.
Will Tottenham sack Thomas Frank?
Frank is under intense pressure and is currently the leading candidate to become the next Premier League manager to lose his job.
Should he be sacked tomorrow morning, Frank would become the third Premier League boss to be sacked in January 2026, after Enzo Maresca and Ruben Amorim were sacked by Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.
Amorim was sacked after recording the lowest winning percentage of any permanent Man United manager since 1972. He won just 38.10% of his 63 games in charge of the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, Maresca’s Chelsea record was considerably better. He won 59.78% of his 92 games as Blues boss and also claimed two major trophies.
By comparison, Frank’s current winning percentage at Tottenham stands at just 34.38%, having won 11 of his first 32 games, losing 12 and drawing nine.
