After two and a half years, EXO is officially back. The legendary K-pop group will drop their eighth full-length studio album REVERXE on January 19, 2026 at 6:00 PM KST on all major music platforms – marking their first group release since July 2023’s EXIST. Here’s everything you need to know about one of 2026’s most anticipated K-pop comebacks.
The album: REVERXE
REVERXE – a stylized rendering of the word ‘reverse’ – features nine songs spanning multiple genres. The title track “Crown” is a hard dance track that boldly breaks the boundaries of the genre, combining Atlanta trap drums, heavy metal guitar and EDM synthesizers. Siren sound effects and the members’ powerful vocals create dramatic tension throughout the song.
Lyrically, “Crown” compares a loved person to a crown that everyone desires, expressing the determination to protect him or her at all costs. The message reflects both the confidence and seriousness of EXO’s long-awaited return.
In addition to the title track, the album features ‘I’m Home’, a winter-themed ballad that EXO pre-released on December 14, 2025. The group also premiered “Back It Up” – a performance-oriented dance track powered by bold synth brass sounds, heavy 808 bass and unpredictable beat changes – at the 2025 Melon Music Awards on December 20. The song delivers a message of overcoming prolonged darkness and proving yourself at the highest point, choreographed with 40 dancers in his MMA debut.
Other confirmed songs include ‘Moonlight Shadows’, ‘Crazy’ and ‘Suffocate’, although details about these songs are still being kept under wraps ahead of the album’s release.
## The line-up: six members
REVERXE features a six-member lineup: Suho, Chanyeol, DO, Kai, Sehun and Lay. Notably, this is Lay’s first major group release since 2018, as the Chinese member has mainly worked in China in recent years. His return represents an important moment for fans who have long awaited his participation in Korean group activities.
However, the comeback continues without Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin – collectively known as EXO-CBX – who are absent due to an ongoing legal dispute with SM Entertainment over revenue sharing and contract transparency. SM Entertainment cited a “breach of trust” in excluding the trio from the project, though the full details of the dispute remain complex and ongoing.
Despite the lineup changes, the six participating members have made it clear that they are committed to a strong comeback. During their “EXO’verse” fan meeting on December 14 at Inspire Arena, the group told fans, “We will keep coming back to you with even better versions of ourselves. We will work hard to fill 2026 with EXO.”
## The comeback showcase
On January 19 at 7:30 PM KST, EXO will hold a comeback showcase at the Peace Hall of Kyung Hee University in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. The showcase marks the group’s first in-person comeback party with fans in more than two years, with members performing songs from REVERXE for the first time and shares behind-the-scenes stories about the album’s creation.
## The promotional campaign
SM Entertainment has conducted an extensive promotional rollout for *REVERXE*, starting with a cinematic trailer released on December 8, 2025. The trailer depicted members being pulled back to the “Tree of Life” – a recurring motif in EXO’s original storyline.
The campaign included guerrilla marketing tactics throughout Seoul, with individuals wearing black cloaks bearing the album logo appearing in districts such as Gangnam, Seongsu and Hongdae. Encrypted business cards were distributed near key locations, while an interactive “mystery quiz” on social media incorporated fan participation.
Multiple sets of teaser images have been released, including the concepts ‘Cube’, ‘Reverse’ and ‘Crown’, showcasing the group’s evolved visual aesthetic.
## The pop-up experience
To celebrate the album’s release, SM Entertainment will open “REVERXE THE WORLD,” a special pop-up store open from January 20 to 27 at The Hyundai Seoul. The installation features a maze-like layout themed around EXO’s “Exo Universe” concept, with a “Cube” installation visualizing the members’ fictional supernatural powers.
The venue includes album displays, ‘Crown’ music video props, interactive zones for creating stickers and photo cards, and exclusive merchandise. Each day, the first session is reserved for official EXO-L fan club members.
## What this comeback means
EXO’s return comes at a crucial time in K-pop. As one of the genre’s foundational groups — often credited along with BTS for bringing K-pop into the global mainstream in the 2010s — EXO’s comeback serves as a reminder of second-generation K-pop’s enduring influence. Their seventh album *EXIST* became their seventh consecutive million-selling album, proving their commercial staying power despite years of military service and individual activities.
The group’s MMA performance in 2025, which featured not only ‘Back It Up’ but also iconic hits like ‘Monster’, ‘The Eve’, ‘Love Shot’ and ‘Growl’, led to massive sing-alongs from fans and junior artists alike, demonstrating EXO’s cross-generational impact on the industry.
Pre-orders for physical albums are currently available from several online and offline music stores worldwide, with multiple versions available for collectors.
