Thomas Frank Newcastle United Press Conference – Rotation and the St James’ Park Challenge

Thomas Frank Newcastle United’s press conference has taken place.

The Spurs boss will address the media on Monday afternoon.

After Thomas Frank saw his team win 3-0 at Everton on Sunday, Jordan Pickford did not fare so well.

Attention now shifts to Wednesday evening as they face Eddie Howe’s side for a place in the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

Thomas Frank Newcastle United’s press conference – October 27, 2025:

Thomas Frank about team rotation

“That’s the challenge.

“It’s one game, so there’s more at stake.

“I changed four from Monaco to Everton and three before that.

“Of course there will be rotation, with games being played every third or fourth day.

“If you want to play more than 60 games, you can’t play the same XI, so there is a nice balance.

“That’s one of the great things about being a Head Coach, that’s all part of the fun.”

Thomas Frank on silverware

“We participate in this game because we love it.

“At Spurs we do everything we can to win.

“We try to win every tournament we play in.

“Playing against a strong team, the Holders, is a tough place to play, but we will do everything we can to compete, win and progress.”

Thomas Franks on more silverware for Spurs after Tottenham won the Europa League last season

“It is very difficult to win a trophy, keeping it is even more difficult, but that is the goal.

“The players here had a fantastic experience last year and really want to win again. We’ll go for it tomorrow.”

Thomas Frank about the focus on set pieces this season

“Andreas is doing top work. The players really went for it.”

“We have to be good in all aspects of the game, but set pieces account for a third of all goals.

“So don’t spend time on it, be super focused on details, and defending and attacking that is a great strength.

“I haven’t seen every game in every competition. My feeling is that there are generally more long throws – that’s a clear example – every manager wants to get involved and it’s about finding the small margins. The top clubs are raising the bar so that’s probably why.”

“You have to be good in all phases. In the first half yesterday we were very good as players from the back and you have to be good in the middle of the pitch. A big part of that is being good at set pieces.”

Thomas Frank on Spurs away form

“Sometimes it’s a relatively small sample, hopefully at the end of the year it’s fantastic home and away.

“They are a team that is still finding each other. The way we are building, we have played 14 games, with one bad performance against Bournemouth, the second half against Wolves and the second half against Monaco. Overall we are building.”

Thomas Frank about playing Kudus more centrally

“Sometimes I adjust it a little bit. With Kudus in the middle to link with Xavi, there were elements of good things.”

Thomas Frank about Danso’s recent performances

“He deserves praise. Every coach will love him, great character and personality. He was good and calm on the ball. Some strong battles with Beto, he had a magnetic head from crosses and set pieces. He did well.”

Thomas Frank on Micky van de Ven

“Very happy with Micky. He has been great for the Club since he signed.

“He has taken his game to the next level, he is still very good on the ball and he has added headed goals. He is a threat from set pieces.”

“Character and leadership. We have a good contract for him, but certainly a player with a big future here.”
