If you fear the weekly supermarket, or are put on a sidelines by nice snacks to end not to end up real meals, this might be the hack for you.
The 5-4-3-2-1 method gives shoppers as you can crash a simple template the next time you are about to crash in the aisle. Instead of throwing random items in the cart and later realizing that you have nothing to cook, grab five vegetables, four fruit, three proteins, two starch and one treat and you name it a day.
The idea is that everything can be mixed and matched for different meals, which means it costs to save costs and prevent food waste. Having a number in mind for each category brings just enough structure to make messages less stressful and perhaps even pleasant.
The method comes back to the maker and chef Will Coleman, who posted a video From his supermarket tips in 2023. He said he could make between four and six meals for two people for less than $ 100 using the formula. Since then others have that tested his method for himself.

A new poll The Associated Press-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research shows that almost 90% of American adults are stressed on supermarket costs, which means that the viral hack could not have popped up at a better time.
The Consumer price index shows The prices of the supermarket have risen by 2.4% compared to last year. Instead of spending too much on products that go poorly on the back of the fridge, focus on staples: a bag of salad, broccoli, zucchini, onions, peppers. Add a few fruit such as berries, bananas, kiwi, grapes. Throw some proteins in your shopping cart, such as salmon, eggs or tofu, as well as starch such as rice or pasta.
Of course you probably have to buy more than 16 items to have a fully filled kitchen. But it is a great starting point for your shopping list if you tend to wander through the aisles. Forget to check not something nice – a seasonal snack or sweet treat – because you earn it.
