The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R recall is due to a defective crankshaft bushing
The reason for the recall is quite similar to the previous recall from June 2025. Kawasaki says the metal crankshaft bushing can be damaged due to over-torqueing of the crankcase bolts and improper oil clearance between the crankshaft and the bushing. This can cause the bus to stall, resulting in engine failure. We all know that sudden power loss can have serious consequences, which explains why there is also a ‘stop selling’ and ‘do not drive’ warning.
Kawasaki explains: The bolts that hold the crankshaft together in the crankcase are over-tightened, and as a result the #5 metal crankshaft bushing can become damaged due to improper oil clearance between the crankshaft and the bushing. Certain vehicles can lose engine power during use, increasing the risk of an accident.
More than 20,000 units of the Ninja ZX-6R are affected by the recall
We think the new recall is because Kawasaki has discovered that more bikes may be at fault. This is evident from the new number of 20,301 potentially affected bicycles – almost 3,000 more than during the recall in June. These all belong to the 2024 and 2025 model years, with production dates ranging between April 3, 2023 and July 15, 2025. It includes all variants of the Ninja ZX-6R, such as:
2024 ZX636J (Ninja ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition ABS)
ZX636K (Ninja ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition)
Model year 2025-2026 ZX636J (Ninja ZX™-6R ABS/KRT Edition ABS)
ZX636K (Ninja ZX™-6R/KRT Edition)
