Although no two tour professionals are the same, almost 80 percent of them benefit from this trend with their iron sets: they use more than one model.
The idea behind a combo set is to make the longer irons, which are generally harder to become more difficult to become forgiving, while the shorter irons remain workable to make better scoring opportunities possible.
Let’s go through what an iron fitting means with a masterclub -fitter from True Spec Golf and see if a combo set would be suitable for you.
Where a combo set to make
We start the fit by warming up with some wedges and short irons, who make our way to your current 6-iron.
Why 6 iron? Because that is generally a place in the IJzerset where players have difficulty finding consistency and can also be a point of discussion to explore a combo set. If we can fit you in a consistent 6-iron set-up, we are convinced that the rest of the set will follow.

Some players do not play up to 6 iron, maybe only a 7 or 8, what then? If we can find a 6-iron set-up in our extensive demo matrix that touches you, the 7 or 8 or whatever your longest iron is, we are convinced that they will work just as well.
The design of the club, in particular the placement of the center of gravity, will influence the launch conditions, as well as stability and forgiveness of the club. The lower the center of gravity, the easier the club will be to launch and generally more forgiving.
For example, game improvement or cavity Back irons fall into this category. The higher the center of gravity, the easier a player controls the flight and the ball works right or left, but this also sacrifices forgiveness. These are the muscleback or knife that are designed for better ball attacks.

Depending on your goals, finding more distance or simply aimed at the tightening of dispersion and consistency, your fitter will choose the style (s) of irons who will best help achieve those goals.
An important qualification to determine where a combo set should be split can be: “With which club do you feel the most comfortable to focus directly on a flag?” Most people can answer somewhere in the range between 6, 7 or 8 iron. For example, if your answer to that question is 7-iron, then the 7-iron by PW or GW is in a more workable style iron and everything will be forgiving.
Peak height on the set optimize
Optimizing your peak height and descent angle is an important element for fitting ironing irons because we have to generate a steep descent for the ball to hold the green. If the ball does not come down steeply enough, it is difficult to stop the ball where you want. Between 40Ëš and 45Ëš origin is a good target to advance.

When our descent angle is in the right window, it means that you are in a good launch and spider window for your dynamics. Launch and spider generally share an inverted relationship. If you launch the ball High, you don’t need that much spider to generate height and vice versa. If you are too high a launch and a spider too high, the ball can sacrifice too high and too high. The opposite goes for a low launch and spider, it will be difficult to hold greens and cover the worms for coverage.
The amount of attic and iron is an important factor in controlling launch and spider. If it is difficult to achieve the necessary peak heights with the lower lofted longer irons, a more forgiving, easier launch option at the top of the Combo set can be logical.
Some club manufacturers make different model irons easier than ever to build combo sets. Ping is a great example, because their I240, blueprint and blueprint T -IJzers are three very different styles, but the loft configuration is the same in every model, so it is not necessary to adjust where you decide to split your iron set.

Ping i240 adapted irons
The I240 inspired by Tour promotes our popular player technology and offers extra forgiveness together with control, appearance and feeling that a wide range of skills levels will appeal to. It is Ping’s highly launching players model, giving golfers more control and the possibility of consistently touching their distance numbers and to stop the ball close to the hole. A new ABS badge in the real cavity-back design is 8.5 g lighter, and combined with an elastomer insert ensures more perimeter weight to increase the moi in the middle and long irons. This helps to achieve a reduction in dispersion by 11%. The badge and insert contribute to a more desirable sound and a softer, responsive feeling of the 431 stainless steel casting head.

Some manufacturers require loft mixing. A more forgiveness iron and a more workable iron from the same manufacturer can have different stock loft configurations and gaps. More often than not, this requires a diploma or two around the split to ensure that distances are consistent during the entire set.
How many irons do you need?
As for deciding how many irons you have to play, do you need a 3, 4 or 5 iron? This can depend on the striking capacity of your ball, and just how sure you are to touch longer irons.
There is absolutely zero reason that you have to be forced to play up to a 4 or 5 or 6 iron if you don’t want to, or do not feel confident. Depending on where each player feels comfortable, or by how fast they swing or his ball-sailing skills, replacing long irons with more forgiving options such as hybrids or fairway forests with a higher meter, can be a better option for consistency. If you fall into this category, a combo set IJzers may not be the best option. In this case, all irons must be more forgiving and hybrids or fairway forests will probably be better suited for you instead of longer irons.

Real Spec Golf Club Fitting
With 70,000+ Clubhead and Schachtcombo’s, True Spec Golf will fit and build a precise set of clubs.
During your fit, be honest with your fitter and yourself about your iron game, especially when answering our ultimate qualification question: “With which club do you feel the most comfortable to focus directly on a flag?” And the longest iron that you feel comfortable in general play. This helps your fitter maximize the results of your assembly to help you play better golf.
