This is what the updated Toyota Corolla will look like

Although it may not seem that way, the current generation of the Toyota Corolla has been on the market for six years. Despite a light facelift in certain markets for 2025, the compact sedan begins to show age. Without a completely new generation in sight, Toyota is still preparing an update for the current platform, at least on the Chinese market.

This is clear in images from the latest approval round of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (Miit), where the Sedan appears under the name ‘Corolla Alion’. The most striking change is at the front, which now contains the new design language of Toyota – already seen on the latest Prius and the recent RAV4.

The headlights have a new split arrangement. The upper section contains a C-shaped circumference with a continuous LED strip in the middle. The high and low beams are now placed on the outer edges of the bumper, framed by black accents. Below a dark horizontal grid and a more prominent front spoiler complete the renewed look.

On the sides, changes are minimal and mainly limited to re -designed wheels. At the rear, the rear lights have a new internal layout and are now connected by an illuminated strip in the middle, while the bumper retains its famous design.

As typical of Chinese legal archives, there are no interior images. It remains unclear whether Toyota will retain the current dashboard – largely unchanged since the debut of this generation – or introduces an update inspired by the new RAV4, which contains cleaner lines and a larger infotainment display.

Under the hood, at least for the Chinese market, the engine options offered in other markets: a complete hybrid 1.8-liter and a naturally sucked 2.0-liter petrol engine. The hybrid setup produces up to 98 hp and uses a nickel-cobalt-Manganese battery, while the 2.0-liter engine delivers 171 hp.

It is still unclear whether this specific facelift is intended for the US, but we will know in due course.
