The recent snowstorms raging in the Northeast have me dreaming of warmer days, which in reality are not far away.
But even once the snow melts and the golf courses reopen, there will still be some cold mornings and spring days when joining forces will still be essential.
And as I just learned, a heated hand warmer from G-Tech may be the biggest asset on those mornings.
Luckily, without realizing how bad Winter Storm Hernando would be when I left, I snuck out to South Carolina last weekend for some bonus golf. But even destinations south of the Mason-Dixon line are not immune to the power of Old Man Winter.
While the first two days of the trip were in the 70s, temperatures dropped significantly the last two days, barely reaching a high of 50 degrees and dropping below freezing in the morning. The days of reporting weather on TV are behind me, but I’d hazard a guess that the hard drop had something to do with the storm that ravaged the I-95 corridor about 600 miles north.
Shorts quickly gave way to sweaters and rain pants for the third day, with temperatures not only in the 40s but also winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour. Then I was really happy that I had one G-Tech Sport 4.0 hand warmer.
One thing you need to understand about me is that even though I’m quite warm—it’s not unusual for me to wear shorts and a light sweater in the 50s when there’s no wind—my hands don’t get the same memo. When I was in high school, before playing a tournament in cold weather, I had to drive around a driving range to get the blood flowing to my hands.
Even if I shed layers as I start walking and the lap gets going, I still struggle to get and keep my hands warm. We also all know what it’s like to catch a shot with cold hands in cold weather.
That’s where the G-Tech Sport 4.0 Hand Warmer comes in handy.

We’ve all seen the fanny pack-style hand warmers that NFL players use to put their hands between plays but easily stay out of the way during play. I call them ‘Quarterback Warmers’.
G-Tech took the concept and added electric heat, powered by a battery sealed from the elements by a waterproof zipper, allowing it to be used in all conditions.
It’s super easy to use and heats up extremely quickly to the point where you can turn it on, hit a golf shot and by the time you put your hands back in it, it’s already warmed up.
The 4.0 version has new batteries that not only support USB-A and USB-C charging, but can also charge other devices (like your phone). They also display the charge level on the front, so you always know when you need more juice.
Thanks to the battery life of over 12 hours, you also don’t have to worry about running out of battery on the go, thanks to a new, optimized circuit board and software in the case. It also has new 3M insulation.
While you’re wearing it, it’s just like any other waistband hand warmer that you put in front of you or behind you, but you can grab it by the heated bar inside for a nice warm-up.
The heat has three settings, with red representing freezing temperatures, green being economy mode for long battery life, and orange in between. I found myself using green the most when it wasn’t that cold, all things considered, but all three settings warmed up pretty quickly.

When you’re actually on the golf course, you basically have two choices for using your G-Tech hand warmer: when it’s time to hit, you can simply loosen the adjustable strap and hang it on your bag while you take a swing, or you can rotate it towards your backside, away from your arms.
Both options work fine. During the chilly weekend at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am two weeks ago, we saw 54-hole leader Akshay Bhatia take off his G-Tech hand warmer and hang it on his bag to hit his shot.
I found that turning the hand warmer towards my back was enough to get it out of the way and not hinder my swing.
For players who like to walk, I have one big tip when using these hand warmers: carry your bag.
Over the years I’ve become a card-carrying member of the pushcar mafia, but when it’s cold and I want to use a hand warmer, it’s much better to put it on and throw a lightweight bag over your shoulder.

Why? Because when you carry a double strap bag, you have both hands free to take advantage of the hand warmer. Trying to push a cart with both hands in the warmer is a bit tricky.
If you enjoy riding, the G-Tech hand warmer is great for keeping you warm in the open air as you zoom around the fairways.

While this winter hasn’t been all that conducive to golfing in the Northeast, cool, crisp, snowless spring days are not far away.
This G-Tech hand warmer will make the difference between wanting to play and not wanting to play some days.
That said, I could see myself using this in plenty of other places too, like a football game or even doing work in my garage workshop while it’s still cold outside.
But most importantly, this keeps my hands warm, making cold weather golf significantly more enjoyable for me. No more cold stingers!
