Cruisers are easy, relaxed motorcycles that want you to take the landscape, not just let it pass in a haze. That’s why they are called ‘cruisers’? In recent times, however, the ‘sporty cruiser’ has emerged, which, if you think of the definition of a cruiser, sounds like an oxymoron. However, the sporty cruiser has caught, so manufacturers will look to connect the holes, as they always do.
That means something that can double like a relaxed boulevard bike, turn heads with his appearance on a Saturday night, and then flash past and let people go “What was that?” On the highway on Sunday morning. There are a few good candidates, but not all can switch to both mode and be immediately fun. There is one that is above the others, not only because of his skills and appearance, but because it also has a pedigree like few others. This is the cruiser who finds the perfect middle ground between muscles and soft.
To give you the most up-to-date and accurate information, the data used to collect this article from Harley-Davidson and other authoritative sources come from.
The Harley -Davidson Fat Boy – Muscle and Mellow
Price: $ 22,599
The fat boy has been around for a while and it has been very popular at the time. It looks great, and when it was launched, it was different at the same time, and yet it met every expectation of what a cruiser should look like. That design has proved timeless and Harley wisely not tampered with it. In the meantime, the performance has to keep up with time, so it has received periodic updates of the powertrain and the current equipment to ensure that it does not lie behind the performance parameters. Nowadays it is driven by the Milwaukee Eight 117 engine, which has enough torque and performance to even satisfy the critics. Leave it in an acceleration higher than you need, and it will be cleared without complaints.
HD has also given its entire Softail range a six-axis iMu, and the safety that goes with it is now standard, so together with that performance upgrade is now a safety upgrade with which you can extract the Max from the fat boy. This means that the fat boy finds the perfect midfield between muscles and soft.
Why we chose the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
Spier – it is called the ‘fat boy’ for a reason.
Iconic design elements such as the disc wheels have passed the test of time.
Lots of power of the Milwaukee eight 117 engine.
Still a cruiser in heart and soul, with a lot of chrome and the possibility of turning heads.
The 117 CI engine is new
Electronic controls and safety are good functions
The fat boy is a big cruiser and needs a large engine. Harley recognizes this and has continued to update the engine over the years. It has an update for the 2025 model year and it is now powered by the Milwaukee Eight 117 custom Engine. This is an air -cooled engine, but it offers more performance than the Milwaukee eight 114 that it replaces it. The output figures are now 104 hp and 126 pound-foot and they arrive at a low 4,800 rpm and 3,000 rpm. There is a by-wire throttle with driving modes, so you can tailor the gas response to your mood use the ‘Rain’ mode if you feel soft and the ‘Sport’ mode will do well for muscles.
A six -speed gearbox and the final drive of the belt complete the powertrain. The threader in combination with the six-axis IMU offers bend stream control and back-torque restricting, which calls Harley ‘bend-improved traction control’ and ‘drag torque reduction control’.

The Fat Boy chassis is similar to the rest of the Softail -Line -Up, with a lower tube frame that keeps everything together. It has standard front fork of Showa with double bending valves and a rear shock of submarine. The back does not have much travel, so you need a smooth road to fully enjoy it. The rear pre -stress is the only parameter that can be adjusted, but it is a tool -free adjustment.

Of course, the six-axis imu and Dual Channel ABS help to reduce many of the negatives, but you can’t escape the fat that this is a bike of almost 700 pounds. Bicycles that weigh almost half so much, such as the KTM 390 Duke, have a larger front pocket with a similar caliper. This is the only place where you could find the fat boy who wants; When you muscle, use the muscle. There is also a tire pressure monitoring system. An interesting fact is that the fat boy uses a non-standard wheel size; 18 centimeters at both ends. The only other cruiser using this size is the Suzuki Boulevard M109R.
Retro -appearance, modern functions
The Fat Boy is a model with a lot of heritage – worth more than three decades – so it cannot alienate its fan base by becoming completely modern. Harley has already done this with the sportswoman, but the fat boy is suitable for another audience, and Harley cannot risk it with this model. It therefore keeps the function set simple and as analogue as possible. There is an instrument cluster mounted on the tank with an analog speedometer and warning lamps. The rest of the information, such as the fuel meter, odometer and trip meters, is shown at the bottom in a reversed LCD screen. The ‘Gray Ghost’ version was recently launched, which is a return for the fat boys filled with chrome from the past.

Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Competition
Some usual and some non-so-usual suspects
The fat boy is a standard choice, but for those who are looking for another cruiser who can do the slow cruise and the weekend at the weekend, there are a few options. The direct rival of the fat boy is the Indian Super Chief Limited. It is offered in a light coach form, but it has the large air-cooled American V-twin and a sporty aesthetics. Another cruiser who does the retro/modern thing really well is the BMW R 18. It does not offer the performance of the fat boy, but it is impressive for the new price.
