July Inkster played her last full season on the LPGA in 2021 in 2021, but her last 31 career-LPGA victories came back in 2006. So when Inkster, which is 65, appeared to play in the standard Portland classic of the LPGA earlier this week-as a adjustment for the US San Diego’s open.
Or at least what Hall of Famer.
“Most of them think I am Joanne Carner,” said Inkster laughing on Friday afternoon.
Joanne Carner, as in the 86-year-old LPGA legend who won 43 times and became the oldest player in 2004 at the age of 64 to make an LPGA snit, at the Chevron Championship.
But safe to say, those young people will no longer confuse the identity of Inkster.
That is because Inkster shot a double over 74 on Friday, which, in combination with her opening, brought 69 hair to one for the tournament and in any case a while in position to reduce the number. If you were to read the fourth paragraph of this story closely, you already know that this would have made the oldest player to make a slice in the LPGA history, an achievement that she could add to a shimmering CV with three straight American amateur defenses, seven large titles, nine performances on the US Solheim Cup -Team -Team -Team -Team.
Inspiring things, right?
Uh … not so fast.
“It wasn’t very inspiring,” said Inkster after her round, a San Francisco Giants Cap pulled low over her forehead. That is the thing about great: they demand perfection of themselves, and despite the fact that they had surpassed dozens of half-age players, Inkster was still less than satisfied with her and “sloppy” game on the par-5s.
“Was not one of my best days,” she said.
Thursday was better. In the first round, each part of Inkster worked and made four birdies against a lonely bogey. Inkster said she was afraid of entering the event and nervous when she stepped on the first tee. But playing with two players she knew – Stacy Lewis and Hannah Green – helped to put Inkster at ease. “Just like to see the young children swing,” she said. “It’s so impressive.”
Just like watching a 65-year-old who keeps players who flies their discs 50 meters or more past hers. In 2022, last year, the LPGA followed the statistics of Inkster, they on average 218.75 meters from the T -shirt. For context, 32 players in the 2025 season are an average of 270 or longer.
So, would anyone be good enough?
When Inkster signed her card on Friday, it could be that it could be. The projected cut (top 65 and ties) at that time was minus 1. But projections are exactly that one best gambling and when the afternoon golf players started to sign for their own second round scores, the name Van Inkster started to slide on the wrong way on the board. Towards the end of the day, 13 players had landed on two for the week and pushed inkster and the seven other players on one under a draw for 67th, one painful shot short of the song.
