Thierry Henry ready for ‘BBC Lifetime Achievement Award’

Thierry Henry will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Henry is widely recognized as one of the best footballers in the history of the Premier League, after a distinguished career at Arsenal. After joining from Juventus in 1999, Henry won two league titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners, while setting a host of records.

His 228 goals for North London across two spells represent a club record, while his three FWA Footballer of the Year and four Premier League Golden Boot awards are joint records. He also shares the record for most assists in a Premier League season (20).

At international level, he won a World Cup and a European Championship with France and was his country’s record goalscorer at the time of his retirement.

Henry will receive the award on Thursday evening during the 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year show.

Speaking about his recognition, Henry said: “Football has given me everything and I have given everything.

“To be recognized as part of history with this Lifetime Achievement Award and to have made my mark for the fans and my teammates is something I will never take for granted.”

Since the award’s introduction in 1996, several major football figures have won the prize. Among them are Manchester United icons Alex Ferguson, Bobby Charlton, George Best and David Beckham, Brazilian great Pele and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish.

Cyclist Mark Cavendish won the 2024 Lifetime Achievement award.
