No fewer than 790,177 cars were sold in Europe last month, which represents an increase of 5 percent compared to the same month in 2024. Volkswagen sold 14,639 units of its T-Roc SUV, making it the best-selling car in Europe for the month and one of the most popular cars of the year to date.
This figure reflects an increase of 14 percent for the outgoing generation of the T-Roc, just as the new model debuted at the end of August. In the meantime, the nearest competitors – the Dacia Sandero and Toyota Yaris Cross have been arranged in second and third place respectively – compared to August 2024.
After the Volkswagen T-Roc, the Dacia Sandero (13,834 registrations, Down 11 percent) and the Toyota Yaris Cross (12.201, decrease of 8 percent), second and third place respectively, on the list of best-selling cars in Europe in August 2025.
The Volkswagen Tiguan followed fourth place in fourth place with 12,094 units sold, which marked an increase of 23 percent compared to August 2024. The Renault Clio, on the other hand, decreased to fifth place with 12,091 registrations-possibly affected by anticipation by expectation for the new generation that debuted debuted. The rest of the top 10, compiled by Jato Dynamics, includes the Hyundai Tucson in the sixth, followed by the Dacia Duster, Toyota Yaris, Opel Corsa and Volkswagen Golf. Here is the full list:

China’s European growth
Chinese car stories achieved significant profit in Europe in August, with a total turnover of more than 43,500 units-one increase of 121 percent compared to the same month in 2024. With this Golf, Chinese manufacturers were able to establish brands such as Audi (41,300 units) and Renault (37,800).
It is worth noting that around 40 different Chinese brands are currently active on the European market. However, the top five-mg, BYD, Jaecoo, Omoda and Leap engine accounted for 84 percent of all registrations of the Chinese brand.
Based on a brand, MG caught up with both Tesla and Fiat, while BYD has moved for Suzuki and Jeep. In the meantime, emerging names such as Jaecoo and Omoda perform better than different established brands, including Alfa Romeo and Mitsubishi.

Under the most important automotive groups, BMW (+11.4%), Renault (+7.8%) and Volkswagen (+4.8%) booked fixed growth in August. Hyundai (+3.3%) and Stellantis (+2.2%) also performed well.
However, nobody corresponded to the explosive growth of Chinese manufacturers. SAIC Motor-It Parent Company of MG-GAF An increase of 44.5%, while BYD almost tripled its turnover on an annual basis with a stunning profit of 215.7%.
Various major brands, on the other hand, saw falls. Toyota dropped by 1.5%, Ford by 1.4%, and Volvo experienced a sharp decrease of 21.2%. Electric vehicles rise
Even with the sale of electric cars in the US, EVS continued their upward trend in Europe in August 2025, with an increase of 27 percent on an annual basis with 159,756 new registrations. The Tesla model Y remained the best-selling EV model, despite a decrease in turnover by 37 percent to 8,330 units.
However, Tesla has lost its lead in the registrations of the total battery of Electric Vehicle (BEV). In August, Tesla registered 14,753 registrations, while Volkswagen took first place with 16,523 units sold.
