These new cars offer the worst value for money according to you – Jalopnik

We all know that cars are quite expensive right now. The average new car will now cost you more than $50,000, which isn’t ideal for anyone. That means there are a lot of terrible car values out there, and that idea led me to the question I asked you all last week.

I wanted to know which car for sale today has the worst value. What car delivers so little value for the money it costs that you can’t understand why anyone would ever buy one? How was a dealer salesman so slimy or so good at his job that he could convince someone to buy that piece of crap?

I know. It’s mind-boggling. But at least I’ll stop yapping. How about you all drop down below and see which new cars your fellow Jalops consider to have the worst values out there. If your car ends up on this list, I think it would be best if you go to the comments and explain yourself.

BMW XM

A car with many flaws, but the biggest is the existence of the X5 M: same performance, better comfort, better looks, half the price.

Volkswagen ID Buzz

It’s a $70,000+ EV with inferior performance to EVs costing $20,000 less. You’re just paying a huge premium for nostalgia and getting nothing in terms of range and performance, not to mention the fact that the interior materials are often said to be industrial at best.

Tesla Cybertruck

Cybertruck of course. 6-figure purchase price, is carried by vehicles at half the cost. Even worse, you can’t sell it or trade it in without giving it away…no one wants a used Cybertruck. Buy F150, Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado, and they will do more for much less and have much better resale value.

Porsche911992.2

Put down the pitchforks and listen to me…

The base Porsche 911 now starts at $134,650 (including destination) before options for the 992.2 generation (let’s just ignore the ADMs and allocation games dealers play). Yes, that gets you a legendary sports car with sublime handling and Porsche build quality, but it also gets you just 388 horsepower and a basic interior that wouldn’t look out of place in a mid-range Mazda. Start adding options and you can approach $200,000 very quickly. Porsche has gone crazy with its prices in recent years, especially for the 911. It’s a great car, but at that price it’s just not a great value anymore.

Honda foreplay

Yes, I’m still bitter about the price and power level. I really would have liked one for a daily driver. Toyota needs to go a step further and make a GR Prius.

Ineos Grenadier

The Ineos Grenadier. 80k+ for a Land Rover knock-off. If you want to spend that much, just buy a Land Rover Classic. About the same cost, but at least it’s a real Land Rover.

Mercedes-AMG GT coupe

The current AMG GT 2 door – yes, the car I love is… not necessarily the worst value, but certainly overpriced, but the worst value for money in that model has to be the GT43. Also why they made the GT a 4 door car with the same name is also stupid, so now I have to specify which variant I want, which is annoying.

But why on earth is there a 4 banger version for the 2 door? And why does it start at $106K in Europe? Are you stupid!? It has the same 0-60 as a stock Evo It’s the same as what happened with the C63, just thank goodness Mercedes wasn’t stupid enough to put that powertrain in the GT63. But it’s absolutely inexcusable to charge $106,000 for a mild hybrid 4-banger, especially when the CLE 53 exists, which looks damn good on its own, and comes in a 3 liter inline 6 with mild hybrid for… $76 thousand! The GT43 is still a nice car, but a nice car for posers. Mercedes…what are we doing? Consumers who bought that thing… what are you doing?

All Toyotas

Unpopular opinion, but I would say most new Toyota vehicles are way too expensive for what you get. A new Tacoma can run you up to 50 – 60 grand. That’s what a big truck used to cost. Think of everything you can buy for the price on the second-hand market. For 30k you could buy 2 Ford Maveriks. Is the Tacoma twice as big? Which most people don’t use it for in any way.

Nissan Z

currently the Z. It’s just a souped-up 370Z with false rarity and dealer markings that don’t make sense because it’s not that desirable.

Lamborghini Urus

Lamborghini Urus. It’s an Audi, so there’s that. Almost no one outside your sect will know what it is, so there’s that too. Ultimately, it will cost your kids a quarter-million dollar station wagon to spill their juice boxes in the backseat.

Rolls Royce Cullinan

I was just in Palm Beach and the number of Cullinans there was simply mind-boggling – and I was just thinking: What is a Cullinan doing that is worth $300,000 more than a fully equipped Range Rover or Bentayga? And all I could think of is: Status. Those people there thrive on social hierarchy, and I guess they can justify the huge price. But to me it’s absurd.

If I had that kind of money, I’d still be driving my old 4Runner, or maybe a Landcruiser from the same era. Who cares what the neighbors think unless they pay my bills? To each his own.
