It may not be tomorrow, but the age of the electric vehicle is coming whether you want or not. That means that one day you will probably control your last car on gas before you make the switch to a fully electric lifestyle. That idea led me to my question last week.
I wanted to know what you all thought was the last gas on gas that you would possess. There were of course a few dopes who said they would never have an electric car because of freedom or whatever, but I ignored them. However, the rest of you gave a number of really thoughtful answers. For the most part, it seems that many of you already have what you consider as your final gas car. However, there are a few people who keep an eye on an ice vehicle before they make the switch to electric, or you want to run both power lines – save the gas car for pleasure at the weekend while using the electric car daily. That is the kind of solution that is most logical for me.
Anyway, that’s enough to chase me. Why don’t we all scroll down and see which last gas cars our fellow -jalops want to possess before it’s too late?
Z31 Nissan 300ZX
As much as I would like something modern enough for good MPG, airbags and other safety features, I don’t want something new to be loaded enough with fragile screens and software that constantly harvests all your data and beeps.
I have been a lot of window shopping FB market lately and since my childhood I have been circling around to one of my dream cars, a Z31 Nissan 300ZX. It would touch all the cool spots and fulfill my wish to have a car that is just as old as I do. It can get 30 mpg on the highway and the interior would be completely comfortable for large road trips, because it is more a sporty tourer than a good sports car. Moreover, it would be cheaper and easier to maintain/retain parts than a skyline.
Give me t-tops, the right color interior (brown or red) and that sick digital meter cluster, and I would be happy. Ex-Jalop Andrew Collins said that the crossing of large open spaces of land feels “like a small spaceship on the way over a large emptiness. Huge heaven, deep thoughts.” That is my favorite part of driving, and as good an approval as I would ever want.

Mazda Myata
It is quite possible that it will be the ND Miata that I have now.

Buick Century Wagon
A Buick Century from the mid -80s. Wagon, probably. If I am lucky, there is a forgotten juice box in the back somewhere. And fries under the chair!

Porsche Macan S
I want it to be a Porsche Macan, because that is just a car that I have always wanted. I am almost there, but I was not completely about to persuade the tractor … soon

Chevy Cruze
We are talking about daily drivers, right? A Chevy Cruze 6-speed from 2011, already changed to a hand-me-down for a family member when I became electric in 2017. This does not include vintage sports cars in my collection. They are sometimes changed.

Toyota Tacoma
I have it now. We are a house of 3 EV. My wife and I received a Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 GT in 2022 and ’23 and our daughter bought a bolt last year. I still have the tacoma of my father 2013 that I inherited with fairly low miles. So I intend to retain that until it falls apart. I never see myself buying another gas car. … unless I could find an El Camino from ’71 like the one I had in high school …

1971 BMW 2002
Full restoration constantly.
2nd owner, it has the CR 5SPEED and LSD -Oachtkant, both from the factory, because it was imported tailor -made. Rare to get that in an American spec car.
Already 99% of our driving is electrified.

Porsche Boxster
In theory it should have been the ’17 Nissan Maxima that I replaced by a Porsche Taycan. In practice, the combination of the miserable weather of Western Pa, poorly maintained roads and steep hills have made the “practical” Porsche a little less practical than I would like. It received a dirty cheap lease on a Dodge Charger Daytona, a very stupid but surprisingly nice car that takes care of the Porsche. So now I think that if the Porsche becomes a summer car, I should double that it is a fun and less practical vehicle, and I think I could trade it for a box star. So hypothetically a Porsche Boxster that I have not bought yet.

2004 Toyota Camry
I can tell you the exact brand and model of my last ice car. 2004 Toyota Camry Le (with a 5 -speed).
However, I am not sure if I will replace it with an EV. Here is the problem.
I use this daily for short trips. Rarely more than 30-40 miles a day, most of the times less than 20. This leads to less than 10k/year in miles. It has 230k miles on it, so I think it won’t touch 300k miles for almost 10 years. Camrys of this era regularly goes further than 300k miles.
I am in the mid -50s. If you perform mathematics, I would have to retire before this car has to be replaced. Something that I learned from my parents is that as soon as they retired, they only needed one vehicle. So there is a good chance that if this has to be finally replaced, I don’t need my own car. However, if it does not retire, I intend to replace it with an EV, because my needs fit well with an EV.

Alfa Romeo GT
It will be 100% certainty, my Alfa Romeo GT with its glorious 3.2 Busso V6. Such an epic engine earns all the fuel so that it can make me happy with the sounds it makes. I will keep that car forever if it will allow me, and my daily is a Chevy Volt that uses a tank gas once a year (short -term work traffic).

Mercedes-Benz SL
Probably the R129 Mercedes SL that I intend to buy for a year or two. I might convince my wife of the last generation Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Prices are still stable for a driver. We are planning to get a Tahoe for weekend trips at the weekend within the next 6 months, but our 2 Mazda 6s stay in the daily driver until the older breaks, then we will probably replace that with an EV, because that is our commuter. I showed my wife the Rivian R3/R3x, and she thought it was absolutely great, so that will probably be the EV for us when time comes.
