Last week we asked you to get a little creative and share which features you would simply like to download to your car, whether it makes sense or not. The moment I decided to ask this question, I knew some of you smart little people would say into my computer, “a manual transmission” or “physical buttons,” and my intuition was right. They’re good answers though, so I can’t be mad.
I said the feature I wish I could download was the car swamp survival kit, also known as ventilated seats. My Mini Cooper is perfect for me, and I love it with all my heart, but I would really like ventilated seats to keep my undercarriage dry on warm, sunny winter days in LA. Well, I think you’ve heard enough about my sweaty grunts for one day. These are just a few of my favorite answers, so if you feel like having a chuckle, feel free to go back and read the other answers.
A manual gearbox
A clutch pedal and a 6-speed manual shifter.

Physical HVAC controls
I wish I could download some physical HVAC controls to my car. My previous car had them (even though they were fully electronic. I could change the settings in the infotainment too. LoL), and I wish my new one did too.

Euro taillights
The new rear lights that Audi is allowed to install in their cars on the EU market. They can display symbols and messages to drivers behind you to alert them to sudden stops, roadworks ahead, a ‘back my bumper’ warning, and if you’re parked on the side of the road, opening the door can alert drivers that you’re opening the door and getting out. I would have to find a way to hack those lights and display what I really want other drivers to read, especially tailgaters.

A Bluetooth diagnostic function
Bluetooth OBD diagnostic app.
Yes, I know you can buy an OBD scanner or Bluetooth OBD dongle to connect to your phone. It would be so much easier if codes or diagnostics were just automatically sent to my phone via the pre-existing Bluetooth connection between my phone and vehicle.

a head-up display
I’ve had a few cars with a heads up display and I wish I could download one to one of my cars (Maverick or Miata). They seem a bit gimmicky, but in reality they are good for those of us with aging eyes – much better than trying to concentrate on the smaller numbers on the dashboard gauges.

Data privacy
The ability to not have things downloaded to my car or have anyone monitor what my car is doing.
I’m a millennial who’s worked in companies where monetizing customer data was at least part of the business model… and let me tell you, it’s just as dirty as it seems from the outside.

Android Auto
Android Auto. I considered adding it several years ago, but it was just too expensive for me to add that one feature. I can live without it until I hopefully get it in my next car one day.

James Bond features
Being a long time fan of Speed Racer and various James Bond car options, I would say there are a lot of features I would like to download right away.

Another 1.5 inches
1.5 inch lift. My Crosstrek is almost perfect. Everything I’ve read says you can lift 1.5 inches without putting extra strain on the drivetrain or disrupting the handling geometry.

A driver’s seat with memory
A Memory Drivers seat. So I could move it back to just the right position I like, after a parking attendant, a car wash attendant, or a parking attendant moves the seat because their legs are longer than mine.
