GOLF has released its latest rankings of the 100 best golf courses in the world, and almost half of them are in the United States. (Great Britain and Ireland have the second highest total with 29 golf courses.)
The last time we published this list two years ago, there were 49 courses in the US; this time the number dropped to 48. Whistling Straits, Muirfield Village and Yeamans Hall all fell off the list, while Childress Hall and CapRock Ranch climbed it.
Eleven of the American golf courses are in New York, including two of the top six in Shinnecock Hills (5th) and National Golf Links of America (6th). And of course, the long-standing top course in GOLF’s Top 100 in the world rankings, Pine Valley, is located in New Jersey. Cypress Point, in second place, is in Pebble Beach, California.
