Sheffield Wednesday allowed Will Vaulks to leave the club in 2024, now he is speaking out about the club’s current situation, speaking to BBC Oxfordshire via the star.

Sheffield Wednesday is one of the saddest football stories of the moment. A series of behind-the-scenes issues have left SWFC supporters furious with the ownership and their staff who are not paid by the ownership.

Those payment problems seem to have been resolved, at least for this month, but that doesn’t make things much easier. Fans haven’t been shy show their frustrations with owner Dejphon Chansiri, with the latest case being the pitch invasion in their match against Coventry City.

SWFC is a club that gets under the skin of a player, and one man who experienced that was Will Vaulks. The experienced midfielder is still loved by SWFC’s support and he has spoken out about the club’s current situation speaking to BBC Oxfordshire, as reported by the star.

Vaulks, who left on Wednesday to join Oxford United said in 2024: “I really feel sorry for the fans and for the players and staff there.

“I still speak to the staff behind the scenes. There’s a reason why I left the football club, let’s put it that way. I can’t go into too much detail about it but I think it was pretty clear at the time what was going on.”

It’s just very sad and frustrating for someone who spent time there and saw the fans really get behind their club. There are potential points deductions and all these things for a fantastically supported football club, I hope they get back on their feet.

Will Vaulks’ time in Sheffield Wednesday

Vaulks left SWFC in winning the club’s Player of the Season award. He was offered a new contract by the club, but chose to leave for the then newly promoted Oxford United.

The midfielder also played a major role in Wednesday’s play-off-winning campaign in the 2022/2023 season. A team that was, and still is, adored by Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

Vaulks’ continuation was a shock to SWFC fans, but that was a sign that things were going astray behind the scenes. It’s good to see he’s still so passionate about the club after leaving over a year ago.

When will Vaulks return to Hillsborough?

Vaulks and Oxford United play each other later this month. He is looking forward to a return to Hillsborough, saying: “But if we play them, I hope we beat them!”

The comment is obviously not intended to anger Wednesday fans, who will be familiar with Vaulks’ character. The SWFC are likely to give the midfielder a big welcome upon his return to the club.

Other than that, it’s a huge game for both sides considering their start to the year. They sit 22nd and 23rd respectively, with both six points, nine games into the campaign.
