  • Ferrari has filed a trademark for the name HC25.
  • Ferrari will likely use it for a one-off model designed for a specific customer.
  • Ferrari has already announced that it will launch 20 cars between now and 2030.

Ferrari will launch twenty cars between now and 2030. That means we’ll see an average of four new models per year over the next five years, and a new trademark filing could give a hint of what’s in store. The car manufacturer has applied for the name Ferrari HC25 with the World Intellectual Property Office.

The naming convention likely indicates that any potential car with the HC25 name is a one-off creation for a specific customer. Ferrari has built one-offs before, including the SC40, a tribute to the F40 based on the 296 GTB.

The first two letters could indicate the owner’s initials, while the 25 could represent the year 2025, a 25th anniversary, or something else entirely.

Whatever the HC25 becomes, it will likely ride on an existing architecture. The SC40 retained the 296 GTB’s chassis and twin-turbocharged hybrid V-6 powertrain, which produced the same 818 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque, and we doubt Ferrari would develop an entirely new platform for just one car.

What will differentiate the HC25 from the base car is the styling. Ferrari gave the SC40 a completely new body, as a tribute to the F40.

Ferrari the trademark registered under the typical automotive category, but the filing also includes using the name on a range of products such as smartphone cases, sunglasses, bags and more. It’s strange when you consider that these one-off creations don’t often result in a ton of merchandise.

There’s also a chance we’ll never see Ferrari use this name. Automakers make trademarks all the time without ever launching an actual product.
