There can be blood

This is not an article about the film Paul Thomas Anderson with Daniel Day-Lewis, but that image of a burning oil source is a perfect metaphor of the Jersey choices of Edmonton Oilers in the past two decades. People can fool the sweaters designed by Todd Macfarlane everything they want, but that sweater – retired in 2007 – has already been used as a reverse retro sweater in 2022-23. The oilers had no alternative sweater that was identified last season, but the Navy Blue and Orange sweater was sufficient since 2019

Let’s look at the Jersey choice made by the Edmonton Oilers.

There may not be enough words to express the disappointment that I have for these sweaters. I know that the oilers are still negotiating a new contract with Connor McDavid, but the unveiling of this sweater would have forced me to end all contract discussions if I was McDavid.

According to the Marketing diarrhea published by the teamThis new alternative Jersey “combines Fanatics technology and innovation with a classic design that is built for the oil country, where nostalgic brands are called to keep machines flexible, in the store and in the field” that is ironic because I don’t see new “technology and innovation”.

The wordmark over the breast in retro font is terrible despite the “s” in “Oilers” with the oil drop. The shoulder juking is split split by the fanatics logo on the back. The shoulder juice itself is cut off by the shoulder seams. They chose a white alternative sweater that limits its use (so this can actually be an advantage). The captain Marker, shown below, is bleeding in the shoulder juice because of the positioning of the logo. The overall aesthetics gives off a “cheap knock -off” feeling, so this sweater is struggling hard to be taken seriously.

If there is one thing that Oilers fans can claim, it is that their team remains its impressive streak of uninspired, forgotten alternative sweaters. There is nothing that suggests that this sweater has to be worn by an NHL team because this sweater does not come close to representing the inheritance of this team, let alone “the region that the team calls home” or “the work ethics of the oil land industries”.

Look, I could keep going how terrible this sweater is, but readers of the Edmonton Journal Has done a lot of the work for me. A commentary on that article said: “It should be easier to throw them on the ice when things go wrong”, while another said, “I can’t decide whether it is terribly weak or just terrible.” Social media went off while the majority expressed negative opinions against this New Jersey. The preparation of the results says that this sweater is simply bad because of all the measures.

As mentioned above, the oilers only wear this sweater seven times this season, so plan your hockey evenings accordingly for the following:

  • October 28 vs. Utah Mammoth
  • December 4 vs. Seattle Kraken
  • December 6 vs. Winnipeg Jets
  • December 23 vs. Calgary Flames
  • January 12 in Chicago Blackhawks
  • January 13 at Nashville Predators
  • January 31 vs. Minnesota Wild

If you are a fan of oilers, they wear the sweater at home for three of the eight home games in December before they take them on the road in January for a back-to-back. To be honest, the subject of fans in Chicago and Nashville should not be allowed to this sweater in their buildings, but I think the oilers have opted for the “other white jersey” for that back-to-back mini road trip. Anyway, that is the schedule for these sweaters.

It will be in their best interest for the oilers to find out that they are a professional hockey team that deserves it as one. The royal blue sweaters that returned in 2022 were a step in the right direction, but the mistakes continue to accumulate for the oilers with every alternative sweater they let go. For a team that is apparently proud of throwbacks, it does not hold a candle to the Original alternative sweater nor the darker-blue and bronze sweater worn in the history of oilers.

At some point the oilers will have to hit oil with one of these designs. Whether it seems to suggest by design or by Fluke that they cannot continue to miss with these sweaters. With this release of Jersey today, however, as Daniel Plainview said There will be blood“There are times when I see people and see nothing that it is worthy to like.”

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
