Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were both critical of the Monaco Grand Prix last year, but the comments from the Red Bull star were slightly more explicit than his rival
Seven -time world champion Lewis Hamilton can take a sigh of relief if legislators seem to have heard his advice before the Monaco Grand Prix of Sunday. This is after both he and Red Bull -Rival Max Verstappen have not stopped their opinion about the Race of 2024, whereby the tirade of the latter is particularly unfiltered.
Monaco GP last year was notorious after a red flag in the opening round led to an early pit stop. This resulted in almost the entire fleet that ran most of the race on a single set of tires and loved many of the drama fans.
Although the circuit is celebrated because of its beauty and historical significance, the slow pace and the scarce inhabing opportunities often result in a boring spectacle. And the 2024 edition of the race was one of the worst examples of that very stigma.
Ferrari’s Hamilton, who was at Mercedes at the time, expressed the need for change. However, he was a mild sentiment compared to the blunt eruption of Verstappen.
The Daily Express Reported how Verstappen could not control his annoyance during the race and was heard about team radio: “F *** me, this is really boring. Should have brought my pillow.”
The complaints did not end after the race, while the Dutchman complained: “We literally ride half -grene on the straight, in a higher gear than you would normally do, four seconds of the pace. That is not really racing.”
He later described the race weekend as “real cool”, but called for changes. Hamilton reflected his feelings, labeled the race somewhat boring and proposed a specific change.
“It was non-Evenual. Everyone drove so slowly,” he said. “It didn’t matter which band you were. We drove seconds outside the pace.
“I don’t know what it was like to look, but I am sure people fell asleep. I can only imagine it. We have to find ways to detect it a little more, maybe three mandatory stops?”
After the feedback from the drivers, the organizers have now imposed two pit stops for this year’s event. And although it may not be the three stops that Hamilton suggested, it is clear that the powers that are still aimed at injecting more excitement in the procedure.
Drivers must use three different tire connections in Monte Carlo, with the tight bends of the circuit being helped in storing tire condition. In addition, teams receive an extra set of full wet tires, which increases their total to three, to prepare for potential rain during the race.
Hamilton, 40, secure fourth place in the qualification for Sunday’s race, but received a three-place schedule for blocking Verstappen in Q1. On the other hand, Lando Norris van McLaren looks at his second victory of the season after a pool position by Charles Leclerc in the last moments on Saturday.
