We have all been part of many traffic jams in our lives, but no matter how frustrating and annoying the worst traffic jam you have ever experienced, it was probably not bad enough to justify a 41 -minute video. On the other hand, the worst traffic jam that you were ever part of, probably didn’t even take more than a few hours, let alone a full day. Certainly not several days or a full week. But 15 years ago, drivers on the Chinese G110 Highway experienced a traffic jam that lasted no less than 12 days, making it the worst traffic jam ever registered.
Take a step back and think about it. Twelve days. That is almost two weeks. Chances are that you would not die from hunger in just 12 days, but you would certainly be hungry. Of course, you may have a few snacks in your car, but I have never met anyone who keeps their trunk in stock with two weeks of prospects. And although the vast majority of people who get “hangry” after a few hours, just be self -centered and are looking for a way to apologize to others, by day 12, I think that a bit of a short mood can be expected. Of course you would not come to day 12 without water, which is a much more serious care.
So how did this happen? And how did people survive in a traffic jam? Well, do you remember what I said about a video of 41 minutes? Our friends at regular car reviews recently took a deep dive in the worst traffic jam in the recorded history, and although it is long, it is absolutely fascinating.
The worst traffic jam in absorbed history
This whole thing started on August 14, 2010, near Hebei and Inner Mongolia. China had certainly experienced a number of quite large traffic jams, and the G110 was no exception to that rule. Part of what made this specific file worse than the previous one was that it took place on a special hot day, so drivers were chosen to eliminate their engines to save gas and allow their cars to work the A/C.
There were also a large number of commercial trucks that dragged raw materials on the highway, and road construction was also reduced on the number of travel tracks available. Slowly the traffic jam built up and grew out what could have just been a really annoying delay in a 60-mile traffic. And while cars are still moving (albeit slowly) and it does not sound like someone is actually stuck for the entire 12 days, as the Roman indicates, many people reportedly sat five full days.
Don’t forget, people also have to go to the bathroom, usually several times a day, and although they can probably give up for at least a few hours, it must come out at a certain moment. So imagine that you are stuck in the worst file that you might imagine, on a blistering hot day, surrounded by a bunch of people who shoot ass on the side of the road. Talk about a great scent. Even the development of nose blindness would probably not have been enough to save you from the horror.
The jam was so bad and lasted so long, a whole economy went up along the road, with sellers who cycle in the jam to sell food and water to the stranded motorists. What was great not to die, but how happy would you be if a $ 1 water costs $ 15, and the alternative to paying was just to die from thirsty? But hey, at least it makes all the traffic jams that you get stuck this weekend seems pretty small compared.
