The outbreak of the world’s most contagious disease that started in West -Texas has officially spread to a large city.

Health officials reported yesterday that two measles affairs that were detected in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, the home of nearly 8 million people, were linked to the outbreak that hundreds infected and killed two children.

One case was in Collin County, including the suburbs of Plano and Frisco, while the other in Rockwall County, was on the edge of the metropolis.

No further details were released about the patients, including their age, vaccination status, how they were infected, or that they spent the disease to others.

But the infections have activated the alarm, especially in view of the fact that the city has daily flights to other large cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Houston and Chicago.

The report comes barely a week after the US officially reported 1,000 measles cases this year – only marking the second time that the Case counts have exceeded this threshold, because the disease was eradicated in 2000.

Civil servants warn if the disease continues to spread, the US can lose the elimination status of measles.

The Texas Department of Health unveiled the two new things in an update that was released on the dashboard on Tuesday.

Seven cases of measles have been reported in the Dallas -Forth Worth – Dallas area is the ninth largest city in the US – since the outbreak started in January.

The five others are not linked to the big outbreak and would be due to people who catch the virus from other sources.

Collin County officials warned residents of a potential exposure to measles on 10 and 11 April and said a patient visited different locations in Plano while he was contagious.

These include a Walmart, Ross dress for less and a dollar tree.

And in a warning on 16 April, the Rockwall County officials reported a person who had tested a positive way for measles after he recently traveled to West -Texas.

They said that the patient was at home most of their contagious period and is now no longer contagious and has been recovered since then.

Vaccination percentages in the affected provinces are as low as 92 percent, among 95 percent experts say that it is necessary to establish herd -immunity.

In Collin County, data shows that 93.3 percent of kindergarten was vaccinated against measles in 2023 and 2024, the last available data.

While in Rockwall County, less than 92 percent of kindergarten were inoculated against the disease.

Since January, a total of 717 measles cases have been reported in the Texas outbreak, making it the largest to rock the US since the disease was eliminated.

There were more measles cases – 1,061 infections – included in a cluster in New York in 2019, but civil servants say that this was due to people who returned from abroad infected with measles and then pass on the disease.

A total of 93 patients in the Texas outbreak have been admitted to hospital with the disease since the distribution began, while almost all cases have been younger than 18 who were not -vaccinated.

The outbreak has already spread to at least nine other states, including the neighboring New Mexico – reporting of 71 cases – and Oklahoma – who reported 16 cases.
